I mostly use Navicat, it does what I want it to do and has a relatively simple interface. I use phpmyadmin every now and then just because I can. I tried to use MySQL GUI tools before but I simply didn't like it.
Workbench is just buggy and unreliable so keep well away from that, the older gui tools just seemed to take forever to execute large queries so i wouldnt suggest them either to be honest.
GUI tools taking forever to execute a large query? A large query has nothing to do with the client. That'd be your server taking forever. I easily pull 20-100k rows regularly in mysql query browser. If it happens to be local, I'll get results within a second or two.
Workbench is fine when it comes to crossplatform though. When I happen to be on Linux I use it unless I can put WINE on Then I'll use query browser instead
Im not talking about a lookup, when using GUI/Workbench they just take forever to execute large inserts, updates, table creations, etc. On the same server phpmyadmin does this in a couple of seconds.

I have never had that issue. I can restore an entire few hundred megabyte DB with hundreds of thousands of rows in over a hundred tables within seconds if the connection is local. Though ideally MySQL Administrator should be doing that action, and it does it even faster.
/shrug just my experience of them, would prefer not to have to have a webserver running with phpmyadmin installed just to administer a mysql database, but based on those experiences i feel i need to, of course since then ive moved the database to a webhost anyway so i dont need to worry about that, its running phpmyadmin for me anyway.
I use a few tools. Navicat is my editing tool. I use it to manage data in my tables because it's fast and easy.I sometimes edit the table structure using Navicat if it's a small change, but in general, I use Microsoft SQL Management Studio because of it's advanced options when creating a new table. Navicat just doesn't cut it sometimes, though it's great for small, quick changes or large imports from files. You should use what you're comfortable with. I use MsSql btw.
