I read the whole thing. I agree with bone when he says that the community is too closed. Actually, I understand the point that 95% of the community is formed of leachers, but we can't change the world. Why penalizing the other 5% for people who will not be able to do anything if it's not source specific? When I entered the community, I was shit in english, in programming. My first server was mostly inspired from COWS and was running with TheCOServer project. I didn't implemented much thing. Yes, I used bunch of things released here, but each time, I learned more. I learned more by trying things myself than by reading, but this community was so closed that I had to go outside to find things. When admins of a french-equivalent forum offered me a position as moderator (later as admin), I created the only french forum about CO2 private server. There was laws around. Credits should be given. It wasn't closed like this forum. We made few community project, but there was a lack of coders. Anyway, I know that with my releases, with my section, with the way I was moderating it, it offered the opportunity to people to learn how it works, how to find things by themselves. The forum is now closed, but people who participated to it have learned things, have discovered things. Sometimes thanks me. Yes, there was leachers, but we shouldn't close the community for this reason.

Releasing the current algorithms will not change anything. I agree with the leader thing. Actually, if leaders can release things, can take the direction of open projects, it will probably result in a better situation. Yes, there will be leachers, but at the same times, there will be people that will learn and later contribute to the community. Else, it will die.

When I look to the current situation. The official servers are shit, but there is no alternative to them. Look at the current private server. Everyone works with himself and try to destroy the other servers. I never tried to destroy a competitor. Actually, I have a big problem at the moment, I have the only completely french server. There is no competition. When there is no competition, there is no development. At some point, Microsoft saved Apple by injecting money in it because any company NEEDS a competitor. TQ doesn't have to be afraid from private servers. They're mostly all shitty and all against themselves.

I tried to be the most exact in my opinion, but, eh, answering to 26 pages is kind of hard.

PS. Thanks Ulti

Me saying your in the least suitable position is me saying your in the least suitable position, not that you cant do it, and not that you shouldn't do it if push came to shove, but that your in the least suitable position to fulfil the role required.

You do realise that what is going ahead is just an official version of what we already have, a closed group of privileged people led by someone who understands the effects releasing something like the new password encryption to the public would have on the community.

So nothing is going to change as such, it'll be the same as its always been.

So even after this it is effectively a waste of time because all we will have achieved is that what is happening now, is just happening officially. Talk about progress!

Instead of wasting your time on this, why dont you do what you set out to do and change the community by starting open source projects, releasing packet and file structures to the community, and then maybe just maybe this 260 post thread will have had a point.

An official version of what is currently being done that can be handled better and more professionally and is a lot better structured. I've already started on my open source project. You can see the BB link in my sig. No commits yet because I'm still working on the core (sockets, classes, etc) before I make an initial commit.

Yes it will be handled better, but no it wont actually change anything by itself, yes your open source project may help so thank Christ the thread has a point, although why you couldnt just have started this on like page 5 instead of putting us through 27 pages of complete **** i dont know.

Just to let you guys know, the EO client and server sources were released and are 90% similar or so to early versions of CO. You can get file structures and official implementations from them.

...says Lateralus 5 pages later than he should.

I actually mentioned this ->

page 12 maybe, but 15 pages ago.

A change in the structure of the community will change a lot. It will allow the flow of people eager to grow up into the higher ranks where they can actually achieve more instead of be denied everything.

Because Inf is active in the conquer scene, knows many many more active members of the community, codes in the language which is primarily used here C#, knows many of the current exploits being utilised and encryption methods and routines, runs one of if not the most successful bot for conquer currently, and is well respected throughout the community.

Bone-you writes in C++ the minority language here (used by himself, and perhaps 1 or 2 others who are active), hasnt been active since 2005/2006 in terms of regularly posting, doesnt know hardly any of the current members of the active community, doesnt know any current exploits for the game, doesnt know any of the latest encryption routines, doesnt actively maintain any working products for conquer online, hardly known by anyone in the community with the exception of those around in 05/06.

Seems pretty clear to me mate....

Also i dont really hold a grudge, i was actually one of the only people to try and work with bone back when he introduced C++ to the community, then one day he randomly turned on me on the forums, didnt provide any real explanation for it and we have been like this ever since.

Well sadly I don't think all-knowing is a requirement for leadership. If the attitude you portray now is similar/same as when you were mod, it's a prime example as to why being knowledgeable is not the only factor, it's the attitude itself.

As for infamous:

18/04/2012 4:43:34 AM Roy Shannon || funhacker || BiG-MaC || Racidon 2-3 rys now

Correct, this is not the attitude i had when i was a mod, and yes inf hasnt touched private servers in 2 - 3 years, but this isnt just about private servers, its the control of information related to conquer, and if you want to measure by that then bone hasnt touched co private servers since 06.

So either way inf is by far the better candidate.
