Socket Handling

Well i wanna know smthing about sockets ...i wanna handle about 500 Player (As an example) how to know the max number of player that my socket can handle without getting players in my server ??

Performance isn't just measured in the socket system, it's measured throughout the entire server. If you want 500 players, it's fine and all to have a socket system that handlers 10,000+ connections... but if the handlers are jacked, your cpu will max way before you hit 500.

I have been thinking, and to me it seems that a lot of the packet handlers (especially LOTF) are pretty large. Would it take up more resources to do something more dynamic such as the following?
