Static external IP

Hello.
Could anyone explain me how to create a static external IP?
Is that possible? Except asking the provider?

Thanks!

Yes. It is possible because I'm doing it with my router. If you have a wireless, netgear router... you can log into it- forward the ports, and then make it static by recording your current ip address and the domains that the modem uses to log into your service. My ip address has been static for a year now, and I can still use my wireless router normally as if it were dynamic. I can also reserve 192.168.1.2 for my developing laptop. The router will request static from the modem... and the modem will provide static from the service.

I need it for my server ...
It's running with my external IP, but my router reconnect every 24h -> new IP -> Need to change server+config.dat every day. :/
Will be annoying for my members.
I tried A LOT of guides, but it never worked for me. -.-
My source isn't finished yet, but I just wanna know IF it work, cause I won't buy a VPS directly. ^^

Ofc you can, no matter what router you have, set internal ip's static and do the routing manually.
Alci asked for a Static EXTERNAL IP.

Once again, No you can not force a Static IP. THe provider decides wich IP you get.
No, i'm talking about an external ip. Read what I just said o.o
I'm telling my modem to keep the ip, and the provider has been sending me that ip for a year now. I've even moved and kept that ip. It's static. lol

It's really easy... all you have to do is go to the main page where your netgear router takes you to after you log in. Change "Get Dynamically From ISP" to "Use Static IP Address" in Internet IP Address. It might fill the rest in but if it doesn't... check your ipv4 settings in the "Status" of your connection (in Networking - Control Panel). Then you have to tell the service to send it for you... so you fill in the Domain Name Server (DNS) Addresses. You can find them usually at ipchicken.com. I'm not sure where else you can find that out. Then just route an internal ip (like 192.168.1.2) and forward the ports you need to that internal ip... and you're good to go. That's how I do it.
