There is no explanation for that. It should be a bug occured for you. After passing the first gate of ft2, behind the wall across the gate you can see those portal bosses. Their rooms are next to each other.Shortly there is no quest to make them spawn except starting the dungeon. They just get shield after activating some quests , but i am not sure which one. (shield is deactivated for some time after killing arzip) therefore to not deal with it it is a good idea to kill them first if you don't aim to kill Tyrant.
