Valentine’s day

Posted 02/14/2011 at 06:34 by Vaidas B

Hello everyone, are you ready for some boring, everyday action? I’m just kidding, today’s Valentine’s day, and to mark the occasion, I’m going to talk about love n stuff. Let’s get started, shall we? (Sorry if this article seems a bit too cheesy for you, spring got to me)
Since everything I talk about is connected to gaming one way or another, I’m going to start with something unusual, in-game relationships. Now as awkward as it may sound, people often make friends online, and in games, can they find anything more than that?
Yes! As we all know by now, gamers are living, breathing creatures that spend most of their time online, so finding someone you like can be very simple, interacting may be a bit harder than that…
Noting to worry about, as newer come out every day, developers try to make them more addicting by making them as realistic as possible they add all sorts of relationship systems.
Now what these do is a very simple, yet effective. Two players usually have to play together for a certain amount of time, collect some items, and often go through a series of relationship levels (friends, engaged, married), let’s take a look at a few examples.

Battle of the immortals (BOI):

Players must be male and female, over level 50, they have to play together and have 10,000 “friendship points” to become eligible. Though the fun does not end here.
Players have the option to choose between a simple wedding, or a deluxe.
A simple wedding requires a fee of 1,68 million coins, and is pretty easy and straightforward. Go talk to a NPC called “Temoross”, he starts the ceremony, the couple get married and it all ends with fireworks.
A deluxe on the other hand requires some real money, next to the standard fee players have to pay 15k credits (premium currency). The deluxe wedding although costlier, is also fancier.
The couple receive a traditional, the bride and the groom, wedding rings, and the ability to reserve the Garden of Gentleness for your wedding. Plus players can invite friends to the celebration and have a feast (players get “foods” that restore their MP/HP).
Though some get married to show their affection, some do that to get some benefit. While players are together they get buffs and skills that only married couples can have.
Privities Bonus - Upon marriage your first benefit is 5% exp bonus when killing monsters with your spouse.
Eye Contact - When you reach a 15 bliss rating, you receive an instant teleport to your spouse. 30 minute cooldown on this skill.
Persistence - When you reach a 30 bliss rating, you receive a skill that allows you to cure your partner of ailments.
Heartbeat - When you reach a 50 bliss rating, you receive a skill that allows you to revive your partner from death.
And if things take a turn for the worse? Get divorced.

Battle of the immortals is not the only game that does that, but I won’t name every game that has that, you’ll have to do that on your own.
So, about the stuff part? Well, today’s Valentine’s day, and game companies want to show us how much they love us, so let’s take a look at what they have to offer.
Company/(Game/s):

NCsotf (Aion)
Show off your romantic side with the classical look of the Star Crossed Lover’s Pack! The pack includes one elegant ensemble worn by wooing lovers, one charming garland or mask, and a formal cap. Add to the celebaration with sizzle and style! Hot Pink and True Red dye packs are available in packs of five and ten.
Blizzard (WoW)
Something is in the air in the major cities of Azeroth. Some call it love, and some just call it friendship and admiration. Whichever it is, many guards and townsfolk now spend their days giving and receiving tokens and gifts to other amorous citizens. The more skeptical, however, are suspicious of the strange "love sickness" clouding the hearts of so many...

Don't miss the exciting gift exchange and worldwide popularity contest to hit Azeroth this Sunday when love is in the air!
I assume that this is an event of some kind.

Jagex (Runescape)

Valentine’s Day Massacre!
Players are welcome to fight in the Wilderness, and at the end of the day, players will get the news on how many PKers they have killed.
Also, if you’re on the soft, but brave side, you can watch a huge clan battle that is set to go off during Valentine’s day, it seems that they want to keep it red, and bloody.

Gamigo (War of Angels)
Bake a cake!
Bake valentine’s cakes. In total you need four different ingredients
- Barley
- Baking Powder
- Hardened Whipped Cream
- Cake decoration

All monsters drop the following ingredients
- Baking Powder
- Hardened Whipped Cream
- Cake decoration

* After you collected all ingredients you can go to Amy in Enes and bake a cake.
* After successfully baking a cake have a look if there is a surprise waiting for you behind the cake.
Gamehi (Dekaron)
1) Sweet Chocolate
During the event period, monsters will drop chocolate. Eating these things will make your attack/defense increase or raise your maximum HP/MP!
2) Be my Valentine!
Players can make their own chocolate by combining 10 pieces of chocolate and 1 “elixir of love”, this will make your “own chocolate” a quest item, finishing the quest will give you awesome rewards, but you’ll have to try it on your own to find out.

Gamers first (WarRock)
Pink gun event!
Players that reach a certain amount of kills will get a limited edition pink FAMAS G2 (scoped or silenced, depends on your kills). Don’t worry, they add up from every match you play, you don’t have to be a commando and kill 600 people in one game.
100 = FAMAS G2 (Silencer) = 3 (days)
300 = FAMAS G2 (Scope) = 3 (days)
500 = FAMAS G2 (Silencer) = 5 (days)
600 = FAMAS G2 (Scope) = 5 (days)
Also, a gm by the name “GM Shalom” will be hosting a pink gun event, so get your gun, get a drink, and get your game on!

Netgame (Operation 7)
Two weeks of double exp, starting today (Feb 14th) till March 1st, and their throwing in some extra events to celebrate spring as well, but again, you’ll have to find out about that on your own.

Garena (Blackshot)
The L<3VE patch!
The game received an update including new weapons and accessories, here’s a list I stole.
M24-H
MP5KPDW-H
Cupid Halo
Cupid Wings
Love Bag LO
Love Bag VE
Love Mask - Promotional Item
Conclusion: So, that’s about it boys and girls, get out there and have some fun! Even though game companies want to show you their love too, go out and make your loved one’s feel loved like never before!

Thanks for reading,
With love,
TheConArtist
