Socialising

Posted 12/22/2010 at 07:59 by Vaidas B

As the name suggests, I’m going to talk about socializing in games. I think everyone knows the social networking giant “Facebook” and all the great games it has to offer (Honestly I don’t even use it, I just signed up because my friend needed one more neighbor in Farmville). The point of these games is connecting with your friends to get bonuses and stuff for whatever you do. Friends that play these games together send gifts, sell stuff and help each other. I think that these games (some of them) have the right to call themselves MMO’s. But the RPG aspect of these games is very lacking (and sometimes there is none).

So that brings me to the next thing I’d like to talk about, what about socializing in MMORPG’s? Here players make their characters, name them, and head out the world meeting new people as they go.
Some are friends, some are not, meeting other players can’t be avoided and as time goes playing alone becomes impossible, so we form (or join) a “formation” of players, some games call them guilds, some clans, others teams, but the purpose of them stays the same - have a handful of people that joined the guild for the same reason as you did. The location that games were made in is also important for socializing in guilds and with other players. For instance games that were made in Asia are less about combat, and more about meeting new players, and making new friends, these games often have things like virtual marriage or a soul-mate system. Now games that were made in America focus more on having fun, fighting, graphics, and overall gameplay, while the social aspect stays weak as it is not as popular.

It all depends on you to choose the games that you want to play, and the things that these games are “heavy” on. So find games that fit your needs, whether it's meeting new people, or controling your own guild.

Conclusion: You can find friends online, someone to mess around with, but don’t forget that the most important thing is having fun, so don’t get carried away.

Thanks for reading,
