The new generation of games
Posted 10/08/2010 at 12:05 by Vaidas B
Hello everyone, if you read my first article, I was talking about some games that were unsuccessful. Now I’m going to do the opposite, talk about the new games that are out, and tell you a little bit about them.
So, without any further delay, let’s begin:
• FreeJack
For those of you who don’t know, Freejack is a racing game, where players run on foot. Even though it sounds like the game “Tale Runner”, its nothing like that. You see, FreeJack is a parkour (or freerunning) racing game. Players race in an urban environment using all sorts of tricks to avoid obstacles in their way.
The game doesn’t offer you a lot of variety in the character creation window. But a lot can be changed later on in the game. You can customize your character anyway you like, the game has a shop where you can buy clothes and other accessories.
You start the game by selecting one out of four characters, they all have different stats, and a different background story (that is presented to you in the form of a comic). Later on you can unlock sixteen different characters by completing missions and paying for them.
The game is room based, but it does have a small area where you can walk around, try tricks, and meet everyone else without having to be in a race.
Every player has a house where they can change characters, appearance, and get new missions.
Not everyone is a fan of the games cartoony graphics, but the game is fast paced, and very fun.
It does have a few bugs, and most tricks are done by just pressing “space bar”.
• Divine Souls
If you like brawler type games, Divine Souls the right game for you. Divine Souls is an action orientated fighting game. You can currently pick one out of three playable characters.
Mage:
Mage’s are armed with a hammer-like staff. Its almost like mages in every other game you played.
Fighter:
Fighters use a robotic gauntlet, they are slow, tank like damage dealers.
Slasher:
Slashers use a sword-whip weapon. They are fast damage dealers, have a lot of AoE skills.
There should be more characters in the future, because the game has three more free character creation slots.
The game has a lot of open world aspects, but all the combat and quests are done in instance dungeons. The game’s combat is something I really enjoy. The game has skill-based combat, and a key combination attack system, that gives players a lot of freedom.
Even though it’s a really great game, but it gets boring very fast. The quests are boring, and identical, “go to this dungeon, kill an X amount of monsters, and bring me a Y amount of items”. One more thing I did not like, is that the only way you can explore other locations is leveling.
If you are level one, you can only go to level one location’s. So the only way to level is to do quests, and re-run the same dungeon over and over again.
• War Of Angels
This is a brand new game (I’m not sure if it’s really out yet, I think that it’s still in closed beta).
War of Angels has beautiful graphics, fluent gameplay mechanics, and massive worlds.
The best aspect of the game is its flight system.
Everyone can get their wings regardless if their level. All you need is the right amount of silver coins, to buy the wings, and you are ready to fly. (This is one of the things I like, if you have a friend that’s already advanced in the game, you can get your wings level one)
You can pick one out of the basic classes in the game (Warrior, Mage, Archer, and Rouge).
The classes are not gender locked, that’s a very good thing because I hate it when games do that.
The character customization is average, the only thing that stands out, is that you can pick your starting weapon (you have two options per-class).
I haven’t found any cons in this game yet, so I guess that it’s a really well made game.
Ok, so this is the end if this article.
