1) small world prior to WZ
we didnt have another 10 places to grind, we all had to intermingle and were forced to use the pvp system whether we liked it or not. the dungeons were public and not instanced which means forced confrontation.
2) the pvp system.
you could kill anyone, anywhere, anytime (outside town). this coupled with the way the world was set up, and how relatively small the world was for a while (when people still played) forced pvp.
3) it was mainly european.
I don't care what anyone says, americans are nice people. no matter how much you see 2 americans argue, or an american and a mexican, it will NEVER reach the hate between a german and a french dude. sure, there are exceptions to every rule, examples were different nations got along, but deep down, many of the major guild battles at their core started with mainly 1 country's guild vs another country's guild, and they both were european.
4) the small community
even when things died down, it was still great because of #1 (small worlds). even if you have to fight 5 people for a spot instead of 50, you still had to fight, and then you got to know that name. Platimus, Voldy, Wickedcharm, Plox, Terror, Finesis, kabaal, blackstar etc etc etc. the list goes on, someone had something you wanted, and you were forced to kill them to get it and you were forced to hate them for having it.
5) siege
it was terrible, it was horrible, and it was wonderful all at once.
it was the reason you'd been exploiting all week, so you could show those ******* you mean business on saturday.
6) southgate
have an ego? come to southgate and either make it bigger or get it crushed. great place to just sit around and bullshit, or run around and cause bullshit. seeing a lv46 glitched mage slow a 91 knight to 0 was a great way to have fun in ep3.
7) the panda suit.
why would you want your character to look like anything else?
