That is unfortunate to hear. If nothing else, let this be a good reminder for you, and for anyone else, that lifetime licenses in this business are usually not realistic long term.
Your case is on the rarer side, where the provider completely screws you over, but even when that does not happen, lifetime access often becomes unsustainable over time. This type of software requires constant updates, fixes, and maintenance.
So even if a provider does not directly exit scam, the software can still fall into a bad state later. Features may break, crashes may become more common, and updates may slow down heavily. If the provider is no longer getting enough monthly payments, their motivation will drop a lot. At that point, updates may take a very long time, or they may only do the absolute bare minimum to keep it running in some form.
Then you are basically stuck with them.
