Question About Possible Client Protection (Missing Files When Repacking .XP)

Hello,

I’m trying to edit some of the client files, specifically TR_ENVIRONMENT.XP, TR_MAININTERFACE.XP, and other similar .XP archives.

Using QuickBMS, I extract the files normally (for example: 716 files).
However, when I try to add those same files back into Xpacker, the program only accepts 715 of them. The XP rebuilds successfully, but the client starts throwing errors afterwards.

I’ve worked with many 9Dragons clients and never had this issue before, so I’m wondering:

- Is this client protected or modified in some way?
- Is there a file that cannot be replaced or is intentionally blocked?
- Is there a specific tool or original unpacker/packer required for this client version?

If possible, could you let me know whether this client has any protection, or if you can share the original tools/client structure needed to repack it correctly?

Well i can tell you the processes

1.
  • QuickBMS -> unpack SCR_BASE.XP into an empty folder.

    XOREncoder -> Add SCR_BASE files that you have extracted to XOREncoder/Data folder ->

    Decrypt using XOREncoder button ->

    Edit files as you desire (example us_resource.txt) ->

    back to XOREncoder interface -> Encrypt using XOREncoder button ->

    copy (NEW) SCR_BASE files from XOREncoder/Data to XPacker/new folder ->

    pack it into .XP file and copy game client folder 9dragons/data/script. <---- Your client should work fine

2. If you are hosting 9dragons server offline/online

not seeing some of the adjustments you made probably you didnt add them in game server nfo file ( C:/9Dragons/GS/nfofile/ ) if you added us_resource to your new scr_base and didnt copy it inside the nfofile folder then it will not display. ( FOR GAME SERVER DONT ENCRYPT, LEAVE .TXT READABLE , ONLY CLIENT NEEDS ENCRYPTION ON FILES in this isolated case)
but i assume you are modifying just the game client for your convenience.

Issues you probably have:

You are trying to decrypt TR_ENVIRONMENT.XP , TR_MAININTERFACE.XP from another server such as 9Dragons Awaken which is using a different encryption key or method from the old 9Dragons client files so it wont work

If you want to edit a client you will probably have to use a .XP file that is not encrypted with unknown key.

Maybe you can tell us what you aim to achieve and will give you a more detailed answer

Just to explain quickly:
I’m editing the map loading images inside TR_INTERFACE.XP.
QuickBMS extracts all files — for example 700 files. After replacing the images, I drag everything into XPacker, but XPacker only shows one file less (e.g., 699 instead of 700). Nothing is visibly rejected, it just doesn’t appear.

After repacking, the client gives errors, so I’m assuming (not 100% sure) that missing file might be related.

This only happens with the client shared in the first post — other clients repack normally.

If you have any idea why XPacker loads one less file (special file, naming, format, protection, etc.), any hint would help.

It shouldn't have any issues like this. There are two things that came to my mind:
1. Sometimes the .XP files allowed to keep items with duplicated names. I don't know why did it occur, but there were no checks for that.
2. Did you try to test it on smaller batch? Like, copy 10 files, try to add them manually with this tool, then check if there are only 9 files or so? Or is there a specific file that's not added?

It's hard to help further without clearing those two things. You may want to double-check the logs from BMS script, too.

its located inside server files/nfofile/npc
Would be of great help !
Its for daoshin island, i've tried countless npcscripts on that map nothing will work unless i can get the original file, bugged *** map

To add more items via H key in game, I have to add new package in event_package and the conditions in event_main, obviously same has to be done in SRC_BASE.

Apart from this 2 files, is there anywhere else where new items have to be added aswell?

Ah yes, you can do using event_main and event_package in nfofile then that should be all, encrypt and paste to scr_base.xp then pack and send in game client !
