If you want to make a server to play with up to 50 Player a VPS will be enough for your requirements.
If you want to make a commercial server with up to 500 player you will need a physical server. But because you will not have 500 players because you donīt want to get in trouble with law a VPS with 4 vCores and 8 GB RAM should be enough ;-)
PS: You will not find a protected VPS against DDos especially for your server because itīs coast hundred of euros per month :-) If the hosting company notice DDos Attacks on your vServer they will shut down it and ask you of the running applications.
