Okay so 911sky is VERY confusing for alot of us but he is doing good work and i thank him for it and his attempt to help me in DM. This post is going to try and clarify a few points of whats been posted before this so no one else is confused anymore.

These newer versions of RestedXP we are using here do not use the same process as they used to when installing the guides and getting access to them. Example. You used to copy and paste the guides into the "Guides" folder of RestedXP and they would display in the RestedXP addon like normal. That is not the case with the new files. Example. Im playing 20th Aniversery WOW right now. So in order to play it, when i download the "RXP" file from the link that includes every version, i must extract the files. That gives me RXP Leveling Era, Leveling Classic, and Leveling Retail (all which are still RAR files and will need to be extracted). Since i am using Leveling Era (because i am in aniversery) i must extract that file again. That gives me the file named "RXP Leveling". You must understand that this file is an ADDON all by itself. You do not copy and paste it into the guides folder in RestedXP. You copy it into the Addons folder in your interface. Thats the new way it works. From there you just /reload in game and you should see all the new guides in place. Its that simple.



If youre still having issues, follow this (which was created by 911sky and abridged a bit by me to make it more clear) which is the correct way to trouble should and hopefully your game should work.

"Delete the addon
Delete the saved variables (to clarify, not the Saved Variables folders, just the RXP files in them, there should be two (or maybe more depending on your characters) folders named this with these files in them. One under account, one under specific characters. There are two files in each folder to delete. ~Trax)
Run the game
Download the addon and extract to the addons folder.
Download the guides
Extract the guides (Remember it should be the folder named "RXP Leveling" that gets moved to the addons folder ~Trax) to the addons folder with 7zip
/reload

I've read over so many posts between this website and ********* and you get so pissed at people because they dont understand your instructions but you dont realize YOU are the issue in alot of this. You are understanding these topics you talk about as if you are the developer, which is amazing and im glad you do. Youre able to help so many people because of how well you understand these systems. You need to understand that while you understand the system like a Developer, 99% of the rest of us are basically Endusers with little to no understanding of whats happening. So while you think your instructions are clear, because they can be short and consise for you specifically, in reality you phrase things in a manner which no one else will understand because youre on a different level than them. I implore you to try something. Go talk to chatgpt, and ask it to explain something that is very complex and confusing to you, as if you already understand the subject. It will sound like gibberish to you. Then ask it to explain it to you as if youre an idiot. Watch how it breaks down things to a more understandable level. Thats what users need from you at times. Im a computer tech at a casino, so i understand how annoying it is when something seems simple to you, but youre talking to an end user and they are completely lost and cant explain things in the correct terms you want, but that said, if youre losing ME with how you explain stuff, im like a halfway point between you and the normal end user, so if im confused, they are confused x100.

Also dude you need to learn to admit your faults. Like seriously its okay to have said something wrong but when someone brings it up to you with an exact quote and you try to say you never said it, you look bad.

Example. I said to you "To also clarify, ive followed this to a T, trying it over and over again with clean installs of curseforge etc.

"Go to the savedvariables folder and delete the rxp files
Delete the addon
Run the game
Install the addon via curseforge
/reload
Download the guides
Extract the guides to the RXP folder with 7zip and overwrite

That was a direct quote from you i used from page 979 if anyone else is curious to check. I copy and pasted that into our messages. Your response was " as I keep on repeating

If the curseforge updater is running. It will just restore the files that you deleted

I never once said extract to the RXP folder

I clearly stated to extract the guides to the Addons folder

But people extract them into the guys folder when I told them not to, and I wonder why it doesn’t work

Been reading the oddly hostile replies against 911sky--the person who none of this would even exist without. You all need to be careful to not bite the hand that feeds you.

I too ran into issues installing the latest version of RXP via Curseforge. But doing as 911sky instructed--deleting the addon, downloading a fresh install of the addon DIRECTLY (not using installer), and extracting the guides into the ADDONS folder (not the folder within RXP)--and guess what... IT WORKED JUST FINE.

Maybe use an inch of your brain before ******** on a forum.

It's been this way for MONTHS now. The name next to the link for the guides even says to extract to the Addons folder and has for months.

If you're coming to this site to find free versions of addons that are usually locked behind a paywall, it's reasonable to assume that you have the bare minimum of knowledge about how to install an addon, which is all ANY of the things offered here are. You're not expected to go in and edit any of the LUA files. In fact, the change that you're complaining about the most in your post actually makes things EASIER to install.

If you're confused about how to install addons, I wouldn't say you're halfway between him and a regular end user. You sound like a Level 1 Helpdesk worker.

yes months in a process thats been going on for YEARS. Not to mention plenty of people arent coming here to update it every time it updates. Many have probably quit the game before 6 months go and are just coming back to it, and coming here to reinstall RestedXP. As to coming here to post when there is an issue, OFC they are because thats the main point. You point out people cant be bothered to read the rest of the thread when the tread is over 1000 pages long, but when i go back and am quoting something from 2 months ago which is 50ish pages away from where we are now, ive gone back too far. Fyi i read back from where we are now to there, and not only that, this is the second forum sky writes on that i was reading back to find the answer because like i said his answers change from time to time, and arent very clear or specific at times. You cant be mad at both someone going a few months back to try and find clearer answers, and be mad that the current answers arent clear at the same time.

Youre right when you say when coming to this site youre not expected to know things. Youre not arguing against what i said. I said he as someone who understands this at a much higher level is forgetting that most users are at a much lower, and in doing so explains things often in a less consise and structured form, or possibly skips a step because to him its common sense but to an end user its not, that makes sense to him because of where he is at, but doesnt to others.

Also im not complaining about the change of going from a copy and paste guide to an actual addon, not once have i said that. It wasnt a bad idea. You think im confused as to how to install an addon in general. Thats not the issue, and i can promise that it is not the issue of most people who are coming back to RestedXP and wow after being gone for a year like myself. Its that when you download a bunch of files, that you are under the impression that they are the same old guides you used to use, with very little chance to see that, no, its no longer just a guide but a side by side addon with RestedXP now, people are going to be confused when the old steps dont work. And when someone explains either in a very confusing manner at times how to fix it, ignores times where others have said certain steps they have taken and just chooses to be snobby, or flat out gives the wrong information and then acts like they are infallable, people are gonna get disheartened and give up. Thats why i took the time to sit here and break down, and explain some of the issues people will be experiencing when they read the thread and his remarks. Its why i broke down the exact file names too, to help clear up any confusion because saying "Extract the guides to xyz." isnt very clear on its own. Which files, is it all the folders, how far deep do i go before i move the folders to xyz? When dealing with end users, you gotta be more specific. Hell the Guides could have simply mean the LUA files all the way at the end of folders for what anyone else could know. So thats why i did it, explained it, and even gave Sky some Constructive criticism he needed because while yes some people may be stupid, there have been plenty who just couldnt follow unclear/wrong instructions and he was a complete prick to them. IDC how much of a service he is (which yes he is a big one), it doesnt give him the right to act how he does and its more than this one website.

I figured it out finally, thank you What worked for me is I downloaded the folder, went in to it until I came up with the Rar file, opened with winrar and highlighted the folder and chose "extract to" then selected the addon folder for the appropriate version and did extract now. Make sure that the only thing highlighted is the guide folder, not the double dots as that will create another folder and it will not work. Also do the manual install of the rested xp guide that was provided, do not go through the curse app. And I just want to thank 911sky for providing these guides, you saved me a ton of money over the years

Yea I just suggest people to extract the folder and just move it to the addons.

If they had issues before, do not have the updater running when the saved variables are deleted. Reason is, it just restores them.
