So you downloaded the addon.
Your friend imported the guides. Gave you a copy of the guides and they all show?

To preface this, I haven't read the lua...

Surely the addon has to save something, somewhere? It seems likely that it saves the encrypted string you paste in to some text file, and decrypts each time you log in. Otherwise, you'd have to paste in your string and import the guide manually every single time you log in.

So surely someone who bought the guide & imported will have some form of file store? If so, you could simply run the decryption methods externally (copy paste job) and save the output to a text file, then remove the DRM from the addon and load this outputted file as normal?

I'll be taking a look at the .lua tomorrow, just thought I'd leave this here in case someone knows already.

The strings are stored in your SavedVariables - encrypted. You'd have to modify the addon to use the proper key to decrypt them when read. This is possible for sharing, however it exposes the BattleNet ID of the user who shares them.

Well the issue with the guides that people do not want to pay.
Is the really high price.

So they want a high price from each person for the work that is fine.
Over a lower price from many people. That would make them more money.

Just like people contribute, even when something is free. Just to appreciate the work.

But another paid addon. First off, was not updated in 18 months and they quit. But they still wanted a monthly sub for nothing.
Another paid addon. Monthly sub for 0 update. If there is, the update is tiny.

Then they wonder why people have issues with the cost
