This is more something "Good to know", maybe you can use it for some high monsters with high resists.
The Ignite effect does not do 40% of the dmg done after resists, it does 40% to the original damage.
So if you do for example a critical fireball for 1000, and 1000 get resisted (so without resists it would been 2000) - the ignite does 800 damage, 400 a tick. Not just 400.
