This tut is about changing the background and text colour in your CMD screen.


To begin we start up CMD.
CMD can be started by clicking the Start button > Run > typ CMD.
Now a screen popsop and that is your cmd screen.


type in CMD: Color Help
If you have done it well , you get a list of letters and numbers with their color behind it.
Okay keeps this screen open , we need it later.

As you all know , a Batch file begins with @echo off , so we are doing typing this into your notepad.

You also know that if you typ echo and text right after it , you get your text into your CMD screen.


Here's an example

@ echo off 
echo (enter your text, which can be anything)

If you did that typ pause into your notebook.
pause makes the . BAT file a small timeout
If you did it well , you now see a line of letters with : Press any key to continue.

We now gave this:

@ echo off 
echo (enter your text, which can be anything) 
pause

ow open your CMD screen with the Colours in it.

as we know each color has a letter and a number, if you read carefully you see that it says there that the first represents for the background and the second represents the text colour.

You have:

@ echo off 
echo (enter your text, which can be anything) 
pause

in your notepad.

Now on:
color 04
echo Test colors (this can be your own text)
pause

If all goes well you get it in your notepad:

@ echo off 
echo (enter your text, which can be anything) 
pause 
color 04 
echo Test of colors 
pause

save the notepad file as a. bat and run it, if all goes well you get this:
<Your text, can be anything>
Press any key to continue. . .

If you have done it well , you now see your text in the colour red
and after that you will get :
Press any key to continue. . .


SO by changing the code in notepad you will get another colour for you background or text!

Do NEVER forget to save you txt file to a .bat file!


Here is a example of a very small batch file I made for this TUT:

color 04
echo colors for hippys

pause
