[Guide] How to Change/Customize SOX Glow Effects (vSRO)

Hi everyone,

Customizing your server's look is one of the best ways to attract players. Today, I will show you how to change or customize the SOX (Seal of Star, Moon, Sun) glow effects via itemdata.txt and particles.



1. Locating the Glow Files First, you need to extract your Media.pk2 and navigate to:

resinfo\itemdata_xxxx.txt

Search for your SOX item (e.g., ITEM_CH_BOW_10_SET_A_RARE).

2. Changing the Glow ID In the itemdata row, find the columns related to "Glow". You will see ID values. By changing these IDs, you can switch effects between different degrees or custom particles.

3. Common Glow ID List:

• []ID 1: Standard SOS (Yellow/Gold) []ID 2: Standard SOM (Blue/White) []ID 3: Standard SUN (Green/Yellow) []Custom IDs: If your server has custom particles, you can link them here.

4. Using PK2 Editor After making changes in your TXT files:

1. []Import the modified itemdata.txt back into your Media.pk2. []Restart your client.
2. Enjoy your new server aesthetic!

Pro Tip: If you want a "Rainbow" or "Purple" glow, you need to add new entries to _RefSkill (for effect attachment) and particles.pk2. I can make a separate guide for that if requested!

Hey mate, that’s a cool idea.
That said, I can’t fully confirm that this editing approach works in all cases, since there are differences between plus glow, extra effect glow, and SoX glows (fog glow, extra plus outbound effects, overlay glow effects, etc.).

Aligning seal glows can get fairly complex. Things like glow start timing, direction, intensity, and other factors all come into play.
Some avatars, such as the blue and red skeleton dress, also seem to use these files to append an EFP glow, if I’m not mistaken.

Creating a completely new glow—or properly editing existing ones—requires more than just the file you listed, but you’re definitely heading in the right direction.

Once I’m back at my PC (after the holidays, if needed), I can provide a more detailed guide or instructions on glow editing.
A small tool for designing glow colors would also be a solid addition for the community (typeinfo). If you want me to code something, let me know.

Anyway, keep up the work. I like the direction you’re going with this.
P.S.: For rainbow glows, you can also use the released EFP color editor. Just add a new entry or replace the EFP with a new one, as you already described.
