[Guide] Basics how to successfully start a server

Test:

Test the bloody server out before releasing it, look for bugs, if you edited something, test every single way in which it could be possibly abused.

Notice:

Give players a 3-5 day notice before opening a server, this will get you a small player base when the server is released.

Events:


Custom events:

These are created by the GM's and these events are used to entertain players, not to benefit them extremely. The rewards for such events e.g. hide and seek, find a spawned unique, answer GM's questions etc., should be considerably small for example few pandora boxes, a stack of reverse return scrolls etc.

Server events:

These are the events which are provided in the server files, for example the snowflake event, H A P P Y event and many more. These should be cycled every month to keep players interested by providing them with 'fun' items such as baloons, pandora boxes, elixirs, potions etc.



Staff:

Staff should be carefully selected and preferably known irl so you could beat the crap out of them if they backstab you. Only the staff members which are VERY trust should have abilities to spawn items. Less trustworthy staff members should PM more empowered staff members if they decide to make an event the staff should consist of:

2-3 Admins, (coding,hosting,finance).

2-4 GM's (VERY trustworthy, events.). (events,community management,forum management,managing events,surveys,( ask the players what they want for the future), dealing with scammers) - Payed by cash (small (3-5% of profits) or silk depending on how active they are (100-400silk/month.

Commands that should be available for GM's:

/invisible
/invincible
/movetouser
/recalluser
/loadmonster
~

Commands that should not be available for GM's
/makeitem
/zoe

2-3 Mod's (Not very trustworthy). Regulates the forum, cleans it from spamm, and other moderation duties. (Stopping spamm, closing/moving useless threads, providing forum support). - Payed by silk depending on how active they are (50-200silk/month).


5-8 GA's (Not very trustworthy). Primarily regular players who help the players by providing them information, should have at least 3-5 years gameplay experience.GA's should be provided with a sufficient amount of globals which would help the GA's to communicate with the players. (Providing players with information, reporting rule breaking players to the GM's, Engaging in-game debates and discussions) - Payed by silk depending on how active they are (50-200silk/month).

Glossary:

GM (Abbreviation from Game-Master)

GA (Abbreviation from Game-Advisor)

Mod (Abbreviation from Moderator)

Advertising:

Many silkroad forum's should be utilised for advertising campaigns, such are silkroadforums, rev6, epvp etc. An advertising thread should consist of pictures, information on the rates of the server, costs of silk, for more information regarding an advertising thread, refer to Portaldark's thread:



Editing:

Do not ower-edit the server, many people prefer to have the "Official" feeling when playing the server, in any case keep the edits for future content, when the players are starting to leave due to boredom.

Have a maximum of two GM's (trustworthy, of course. Real life friends maybe? Or someone you've known online who either has a lot of reputation, or you've known for a while). If the player-base increases once the server is opened (to something around 200 players online daily) start to slowly recruit more GA's. Recruit GA's without powers, otherwise they'll get power hungry and you will have around 60 applications a day, just because people love power(previous experience).


GA (abbreviation from Game-Advistor/Assistant)

YES
50-100 Globals.
Avatar - (which makes them stand out from normal players)
Silk per week (pay them around 100-250, depending on activeness, as you mentioned)

NO

GM Powers
Anything other than Globals.

I wonder how many turks/egy kids will read this.

Put the logs on the homepage of the website (in a section, ofc) then players will know there's no corruption.

How can a server would succes if every kid ddos the every newest server with some potential ?

the DDoS do is a packet based DDoS rather than massive flood of connections
that's the reason that if the fix appears, this kids will no longer will be a mayor problem

Well its a good that servers get ddosed... this somehow keeps the amount of servers at least a little smaller...

I've said it before and i'll say it again, the reason for this poluation is that every kid steals 50 euro from mommy and opens a server thinking they'll be rich.Take this DDoS attacks as a positive act.
