It would be cool to have this old client but it's probably a prototype kinda client which they never released. Kinda like trailers these days which 9/10 times look nothing like the released game.

there was a project for this client, but it stopped, dunno why :/

I know the project but sadly the open beta client isn't the same one as shown in this video. Like veteran1337 said before the open beta client is the current map but without the river between Hotan and Downhang. and ofcourse without the european maps and taklamakan.

Well, Since you didn't play in " Old " server before then you don't know what the " real fun" means.
OT : downloading the client right now, gonna check it out.

Let me explains something for you since SnowStorm1 explained it kinda weird (No offence ), This old client is basicly the same as the silkroad from now graphic-wise. Ofcourse there have been some improvements over the years but if someone could get their hands on this client you could basicly extract the maps and all the other stuff and use them in the "new" client.
So the graphics and everything will still be the same as it is right now. The cool thing is new area's so you can create a whole new degree with other level of monsters or special event areas and what not.

Well Yahoo made it possible for Joymax to host their Game. (As far as I know)
Thing is, Joymax is the developer and the owner of kSRO/iSRO, Yahoo only helped them ^^
