Coding, Developing and working rly perfectly and precisely on emulation project will get you alot of knowledge, money and people who will know you aswell. If you'll open an rly serious project let me know about it. WHO'S WITH ME YO?

P.S: It'll be much more challenging than just an rdy closed source serverfiles. (That's the magic of reverse engineering)

I still believe emulators are the only way to go, for obvious reasons. I still think it's possible (see what ufonose and npcdoom did without access to the real serverfiles!) but it would require a lot of time and money (mostly time) to create something that can compete with the current leaked files, nobody is going to invest time in something that has an unsure future like this, since nobody would play on it if it's not finished. and if it is ever finished it will probably be when silkroad 3 is already released.

About the language discussion, for obvious reasons an unmanaged language (c/c++, delphi, etc) is the best choice if your programmer has enough experience in the language, managed languages like anything in .net or java will speed up development, but in the end the files can(!) be slower than for example if it was coded in c++ (if the programmer has enough experience with that language)


Continueing on bases like lyzerks or pax's (no offense) is not a really good idea, it was not designed to run 2k players and the core code is really dirty it would be a much better idea to rewrite it completely, also vb6 is not the most ideal language to work with 2k+ connected users, though it is possible.


Best bet would be to continue a good emulator (ufonose's, zelos) but I doubt there is anyone skilled enough who has enough time to actually finish it. We have been talking about releasing zelos emulator's code in public, but we came to the conclusion that it's just not worth it. 99% wouldn't be able to get it to compile, and the others will just put their name on it and claim it's the best emulator they coded themselves from scratch...

As far as I can see,the best thing to do would be to get a team of the good programmers in here,or probably of other forums,too,and that would probably be a team good enough to finish zelos's code,or start a totally new one from scratch.

No offence but Zelos wasn't stable, you have stuck on login because no beta tests during development, i doubt about continue on Zelos source and your'e right about peoples wont spend thier time on coding C# emulator because it will take years. Beside of that probably best idea would be Ufonose emu which was best , or rewrite my emulator to C language for large scale emulation.

Anyway whole idea of making emulator which can handle thousands of players are senseless. You cant beat Offical sro files, Joymax programmers worked years on it , and even with vsro files you have to still base on reverse engenering.

At current stage emulator dont have to handle thousands of players, it is good for open home servers and play for fun+ let peoples to be creative in a little scale.

Pax - from your posts we know you are the greatest, the best coder ever. You've got very nice self-esteem, you should think about criticism of your emulator, your skills.
If you won't use at start source of sremu-dsremu you don't be able to do anything.
Maybe now your skills is better than you've started. In about 5-6 years your emulator should be better. Your stability isn't from your skills but it comes from vb6.
It's old language but look at dsremu- it has nice stability maybe better than srx and it haven't got awesome functions.
If you are really nice and my opinion is wrong, you should do something for us.
There are some people who are able to fix, rewrite, improve your emulator in that way which you don't look know. I think it doesn't matter now for you to release it as open source because now there are server files already released so it doesn't mean a lot for you.
SRO scene is now dark and black(every server is same), maybe would you like to make it more colorful(mean everyone can make something own, unique).

For the ones who still think server files are better than the emulators, just check what grindroad did they added a 'angel' & 'demon' thing, it's an epic edit and no coders so far can edit this to their server files so please just finish the emulators :$

Means You can edit It to work with Latest iSro Client .\

No there is no peoples who can do a shit here, i have relased sea shadow source and noone was interested+ they still flame on me ^^. Funny like discussion about emulation became a private fight against me, maybe focus yourself on this thread and his point ?. And i dont care about vsro because my files means 4 years of my work, and stability cames from that work.
