need help to make own server

Hey there.. can anyone give me some info on how to make your own server. i have been google and looking and all i see are old post like from the 2007 to 2008 post only.. and have not see any info on how to make your own server with these update stuff.. so can anyone help me out with some step by step on how to make one..
