There is no "right version".
You need to find a plugin that will allow you to open models with that file type.

i'm only aware of c++
also as stated, 3d max can be used with some files within the pk2

I don't know wich file type the models from silkroad are but let's say they're for example .sro then you search for something like 3ds max .sro plugin
