Server Speed?

Ok, I don't know what the heck I did, everything was going well when I edited and downloaded updates to my data.sah, so I started making bigger and better modification, end last time I updated my data.sah, The game is now running at double the speed.

Mobs are moving faster, I'm faster, everything just boosted to 2 times maybe 3 times the normal speed. Anyone know what makes this happen?

I dont think any modificationg made to data.sah will affect it. You must've done something somewhere else.

Well, I run the original game i had it run fine but if i run my new one it goes fast, I added like 10 new gear and a few weapons, new mall, new maps, new npc, new mobs, new mode name, new logo's, new loading screens, new descriptions... so its kinda hard to pin point what cause this....

Some update with incorrect (or missing) where clause ??

Mouvements speed is handled by the client (of course - and your tests with another client obviously show that), now I'm not sure that "the game is now running at double the speed" ... does the fps is double ?

You deal with mouvement speed, is it the sole change or does the attack speed, the cooldown dealy, etc, also change ?
Depending of what is actually impacted, we may (I hope) be able to find out what incorrect changes were made.

Well my fps is always between 120 and 155 depending on how much stuff I'm running, but this is what I can tell you, everything is double the speed, the skills, mobs, running speed and even that underscore when you type stuff. What I noticed is even tho the skills are executed faster the recharge is the same as normal, also when I Exit the counter starts from 10 to 1 but goes faster, when it reaches 0 it takes about 3 sec more b4 it exits, usually it exits exactly at 0...

lol guess what your all wrong, i experienced this when i set the priority of the ps_game.exe to high... check your process' and make sure they are all set to normal and it could be that you set the priority of your client to high but i would check both just to be sure

Thx for trying Shinru, really appreciated, But I never edit my process priorities since its a Server only PC, only server runs on this. But I checked it anyways and its at normal... I checked every process, and everything normal.

And thx EC for looking this up I appreciate this too. I really don't get it, I did like 10 updates before I did my big one, tested armor and weapons together (no speed change) I did NPCQuest and Cash together (no speed change) i did some login screens and img change (no speed change) But theres one thing I changed, the sysmsg-uni.txt that was only added in the big update, so i'll brb and delete my data.sah and try to figure out what causes this.

Edit: Ok so, wth. Somebody has got to explain this to me... I swear I did absolutely nothing different and changed nothing... Right after I posted the first part of this, I decided to go run the OS ( was running normal speed ) to see if this one didn't mess up to... but it was still normal like it was b4. So i could use this OS data.sah to replace my messed up one, so I said to myself ima try it one more time, And of course now its running normal... seriously...

So what the heck? It had to be server sided then... but i swear I posted my question this afternoon, and since then didn't make absolutely no changes...

no changes ... including server reset ??
I mean did you perform several full shutdown, restart, tests with abnormal speed ?

if no reboot have been done while the /bug speed/ appears, a GM command (not a /notice but something) may habe been issued to run the server in a speedy-test-purpose mode ...

any tries of some undocumented GM commands ?

I always make complete server restart when i get errors, when I saw the speed bug, I did a full restart, but not a PC restart. I got the same errors. As for the GM commands, I didn't do any commands accept for the /char off to better see the performance.

But... I don't remember trying the server after the PC restarted after updating the Anti-Virus. I left the screen for a few hours... when my anti-virus updates, it automatically closes the server and does a restart of its own and then starts the server again. I remember coming back to the screen and seeing a "bubble" with a msg on it that tells me that it detects my external Hard Drive... Only 2 things opens that "bubble", a PC restart and when a program accesses it...

So I think you're right castor, I had a pc restart. The question is, what cause the speed bug to start?

The only thing I can think of is if you have an AMD processor without the installed.

That's the only time I've ever seen Shaiya run too fast for an unknown reason.

The same problem occurs when running an old game on new PC's. It usually tends to run too fast. I experienced that before, but there was an option in game settings that slowed everything down to normal. If you ever run a DOS game you should know what I am saying.

I can't think of any change in data.saf that would cause such problem. It's just a container of textures, pictures, models and such, plus some configuration for the gameplay.

I think I remember the context now, so I will try to dig up that thread.

Yeah, somebody said that they did a /notice and it was running way too fast. I'll still try to find the thread, might take me a bit though.

[update] I can't find it, I'll search for it tonight. [/update]
I am the one that had that problem EarthCrush, I didn't post it but sent in a PM when you messaged me back about duping a long time ago. I fixed it by simply rolling the vps back a day, I am not sure what caused the problem. The mobs were just instant spawning, but the system restore fixed it up, not sure on any other way.

My question wasn't: "does the speed appear after restart" but does it was still present after restart.

basically (and sorry for obviousness):
- if the bug is present after server (ps_game etc) restart, the bug is likely in a DB table or ini config
- if the bug is present after game (client game.exe) restart, the bug is likely in a client sdata
- if the bug does not appear each time the same client sdatas and server config are used, it is likely a bug of DirectX (one of many of it).

The game certainly contains some proprietary (specific) decoders / renderers for some type of shape / 3D surfaces but a lot of the process is managed by DirectX.
Among the constraints that DirectX should satisfy, the speed of the game is an important one, a toon shall walk at the same speed whatever the main CPU & GPU performances, DX so manages schedulers to run motions at the expected speed (visible speed of action not frame rate).

So since the simplest explanations are always the best, it was certainly a DX bug.

Well, the final verdict is this... I went and started from scratch... (but now was paying more attention to this bug) I just did all the same updates I had, since they were already made, and started the game after every updates (I had 5 updates). After the 3rd one I seem to notice a tiny speed affect, but not that great of an affect. The update was some new images and a few button modification. I decided to make one more update and see if it would get worst (witch was expected) and it did.

So i made the next update witch was the last one and it ended up as fast as the first time (Just like when I started this topic). I made a Server restart and it stayed the same, but when I did a PC restart it was fixed.

So bottom line is after modifying the data file with new files to often without refreshing my pc, lets not forget I make graphics and run a lot of security and do many compiling, decrypting/encrypting and converting... but when I restart it fixes the glitch...

So for future users having a similar issue, try restarting your pc unlike I did. I run my PC 24/7 and didn't think it would affect my servers performance.
