[Request] Hosting Advises, VPS or not?

Hello all,

Would you recommend a VPS and wich one for a 10/20 players closed beta test phase?
Im looking for a rather cheap host, 20/30$ per month maybe for a server that would fit my needs. Please help me making the right choice.

Hello Alladrios,

If it is for closed beta only, and if you do not go over a 50 playerbase, a 5-10 mbit/sec up connection would be good enough to host from home. A VPS for closed beta phase on a lower player base has no use whatsoever.

Thanks danco, Hamachi seems to work pretty good for now.

I'll update to VPS when i feel the need.

I have now purchased a VPS, here are its features:

# 512 MB Dedicated Ram
# 500 GB Data Transfer
# Choice of OS :
# Windows 2003

Can i expect to host more than 200 players with this config or im totally dreaming?

Hmm thats a good one... You can always disable logs... My logs only are already over 6 GB, so your storage is a bit on the low side.

Ok well my VPS is up by now (Running win server x64) and when i try to start services in SPC everything works appart from game in gamegroups wich starts and then go back on pause while all other services are up n running.
If you have any idea to help me figuring out what's going on i'd be grateful for it.

I would recommend no less than 1.5-2GB for the ram. Once you get alot of players on at once, you'll lag and crash alot without it.

yes LPH, i believe i'll need a better host once i get more players (Currently 30/40 testers only)

Any idea regarding ps_game not starting while all other services seem to run smoothly?

edit; Apparently some ports arent forwarded, could it be the explanation why i cannot run ps_game?
i send my provider this list of ports:
1433 - SQL (for remote connections like link server used by session) WARNING HACKABLE

Normally, a log like that means a faulty PS_Game.exe. Did you edit the stats or whatever by any chance?

Nope it's Shinru's original PS_Game.exe from his topic Shaiya server EP4_EP5. And i used precisely the same files on my local config (wich worked perfectly with a EP5 DB) so i was wondering.

Anyway my VPS is down atm, provider forwarding ports for me. Hopefully i can try again tomorrow and have more luck this time.
