Error when trying to connect to server with SMSE

Using ProfNerwosol's guide, I followed all of it correctly (however his guide was missing some parts). When I opened up Server Management Studio Express to try and connect to the server, I get this error.

Cannot connect to KERC.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

Any help please? I'm using Windows XP SP3 with .NET Framework 2.0

Hi, try following, open your Sql Server Configuration and disable VIA in client protocols and network configuration.

then start all server services manually, hope this helps, at least it worked for me, i had the same problem
