This is the real truth and nothing but the truth to making a server and work it..
first off you need to get a server. i recomend ep 4.5 just becouse it's there fully working. (no sorry i'm not going to show you how to here there is other places for that..)
you need sql 2008 r2 or 2012 it's free and it's called express edition
when you tried the server for a vile just how it is. you need shtool and Shaiya Data file Tool (yes it's still here and yes it's free).
now you can start messing up your server:-P (joke but there is a litle truth there he he).
now that you have all this figured out i guess you been playing and playing with your server for about 3-6 month.
it's time to find out if you want to have ep 4 or want ep 5 or even ep 6 that's just out now (parts of it).
you first need to again install it and so on, then play with it to find out what's working and what's not working, what needs to be fixed..
ok now you might have a "working server", you now need friends to help you test more,, so how do you do that?
hamachi? well it's free and you can have about 6 friends including your self playing. if you want more. you need to figure out how to open op ports on your router and have it at home. or you need a windows host server (yes this cost money).
3 gb is a must and cost around 30 usd a month or more. less then 3 gb don't even cover sql.
so if you want ppl to play your server yes you need to pay or you need to know and figure out how to share it from your home and install iss at your home server/computer (if you have a changing ip you can't have it at your home. )
ok let's say you now have a working server. you need php (that's to make scripts work on your server) if you use iss manager you need odbc scripts or if you figure out how to use other managers like xampp and so on you can still use msconnect i think (not using this so not 100% sure)
ok now it's done for ppl so they can register and so on.. now you need a working website and updater..
when that is figured out you need a place for new ppl to see your server. like a voting site. and you need to work your ass off to get vots so ppl can see your game at first..
when your now starting to get players you have another problem comming... hackers and so on will enter your server. so get protection, 75% if what you need can be found here. and if your now thinking i can get it later your server might be totaly fucked up in just day's so get protection and get it fast..
what is protection?
Well dupe protection, know how to look for other hackers like speed hackers, stat padders and so on..
close down your server. read about all the ports it needs open and close down everything else..
kk you now sitting there guessing money will come rolling in. well your normaly totaly wrong. ppl play other servers and they normaly like servers that have players becouse of pvp and a community... so think to your self. why should they join your server???????
ok you find the way. you start to get players. everything seem ok... but the players that normaly comes first comes with hackers that know how to hack even the best protected server. so you might get 50 players. but up to 30 of them are hackers that you need to ban. but if you get 50 a month you can expect that you mabe going to keep 5-15 of the 50 each month. mabe.
so ok server is growing and you ban ppl and everything now seem like fun..
but now other stuff see you.. more hackers? no now ddos comes creaping up on you. apollyon evolution and so on is just around the corner. apollyon is now the best choise to get first i guess after what i have seen he can just be payed and he might even help you. but if you get evolution on you they never give up. they think they own the world. (or this is what i have heard) there is others out there but they are not even close to those 2..
and after fighting apollyon for a looooooooooooooong time i know he never gives up..
but yes there is a way.. dos protection. that cost to fight off ppl like apollyon and so on about 5000++++++++ usd.
just saying... this is how to run a server. i'm not going to start kidding around with ppl. this is just stuff you need to think about..
now you even need to pay for alot on this forum too. so having a server isnt just make it and get payed.. i know alot of you are thinking it.
Why did i make this? becouse i hade my share of ppl that wanted me to help them out making a server. and i see that 90% think this way..
