[REQUEST]Version Checker
Heya
I could be wrong but i could swear that i sow a post around here on how you could make Version Checker to work and editing game.exe to match you server version. I tried searching it for the past two hours and couldn't find anything, as i said, i might be wrong. Also i think the ps_game.exe might have smt to do with it since someone posted around here a version with /vchk off and /nprotect off.
Thank You in advance

Actually, I believe you do use HxD (or another Hex editor) to edit the version in game.exe, though it's been so long, that I forgot how. Though most servers don't use the version checker, they just turn it off.
You could use Olly or a hex editor to auto disable the version check, and turning nprotect off, which would save you the trouble, unless you were wanting to.. "lock" your game.exe in a way.

I know and i'v been searching both thru game.exe and ps_game.exe for some kind of hints and couldn't find enything. Thought someone with a higher hex knowladge might point me in the right direction. I don't whant vchk turned off, it's the other way around, i do whant it "looked" to avoid multy clients and other tricked out exe's that ppl might found around here.
Thx for your help anyways Rebecca

maybe try to add your own type of gameguard?? I've seen it done on 1 pserver before.. cant remember which or why, but it may work..
i dont know how effective it would be, or how easy/hard it would be to impliment, but if you're looking at trying to stop multi clients, then maybe have a look into that, or mess with your database to search for IP's, theres a few simple querys here (i think in one of Safe's posts) to find multi IP's
&& sorry for not having much useful info on your OP :P

Honestly, locking your client's version wouldn't have any effect I could think of, against stopping multiclient and such. Just because they're modifying the game.exe, doesn't mean they're modifying the version of it. Besides, someone could modify the version to match your clients, and "trick out" the game.exe
If you wanted to "prevent" multiclient, you could do so in the Login SP of your database, like checking if the IP is already logged in once, on a different account of course, and rejecting login if it is. Maybe like...
Code:
IF(EXISTS(SELECT * FROM PS_UserData.dbo.Users_Master WHERE UserIp=@UserIp AND Leave=1))
BEGIN
SET @Status=-1
END
That'd be checking for an account currently logged on with the same IP, of course you'd need to either make a column, or use a column, or make UserIp auto update the IP every time they login, that way you can make sure it's more efficient.
Of course this could leave issues with people with same IPs (Bulgarians... Before, I had IP banned a guy, took out his entire "village" is what he called it. So have to be cautious. Not meaning offense to anyone by this.)

I actually know that if you want to use multiclient on a specific server you need to have at least some minimal knowledge of using a hex editor to edit the server's ip but i think that maybe 50% of the ppl out there that ask for this kind of things don't have that much knowledge of hex editing and i do believe by adding a version to your client can prob. stop a good part of them. As the ip ban goes you already pointed out the biggest downside and plus i think is better to prevent ppl of using them then trying to figure them out from database using queries.
Again, thx for your help

Actually, because of Lilprohacker's tool, it requires next to no Hex knowledge, nor research. I can actually guess that 90% of the people that multiclient (When Multiclient is not allowed), don't actually know how to do any kinds of edits like that.
I apologize to you though, I kinda went off track from your original intentions. I do believe there is a post on this site that talks about modifying the game.exe's version to comply with ps_login's version check requirements, actually, I KNOW there is somewhere, I just can't remember where. I'll try to help you look for it.

I appreciate every bit of help cause i know some of you ppl prob. have other stuff to do then busting your brains with other ppl's problems. I'm still hoping that someone with the correct knowledge find this thread and give me a heads up.

Found those post's but still, it doesn't say anything about the version from client side game.exe or ware to look in ps_game.exe to see if it's removed or not.

What you are looking for was originally discussed on the Shaiya Dev Forum that no longer exists as it was not an Epvp forum. I could be wrong about this being the original instance of it, but it is where I remember it from.
Though, the intent at that point was to force players to update. But again, LilPro's patch tool negates this.
It was inline with a topic of patching ps_game.exe to avoid having to enter the /nprotect commands and such each time you start the server.
Honestly, if you wish to track this down, your best bet is probably to talk with those who were active on that forum. I don't have it, as I never bothered due to the patch tools available. Some names I can recall offhand however would be LilPro, EarthCrush, Tommo (I hope you know whom I am referring too, I hate trying to remember his forum name), and Shinru.
Though, as long ago as it has been, you may not find anyone with the info or anyone with the time to replicate it, as most of them have their own servers to keep them busy.
As far as the side thought of preventing the multi-client as per the mod to the login script, it can also be done by just refusing the connection rather than placing a ban/lockout status on the account. But the point remains in that you could potentially block players who are legitimately trying to log under the same IP address. As Rebecca had pointed out.
Another example of this: I have a ton of players from the Philippines, most of which play in a cafe or other community internet locations. Banning these players has always lead to less than interesting outcomes. Caution should always be used when taking action with some of these specific locations.
I know this offers little direct help, but I figure it may help push you in the proper direction of finding what you seek.
