it's not the case; a toon can have more than 32k HP, but still less than 64k.
(if your ps_game doesn't manage more than 32.767 pts, change it, I'm pretty sure all available there support 64k, and since you gave no info on your config...)
regarding handling of HP, SP, MP counters as 32-bit values (they are handled as unsigned 16-bit values), you would definitively forget that option.
from my opinion, the issue you have to fix is "i have custome gear and lapis", providing top-enormous-even-bigger figures does not change the game, you can divide all HP, defense and attacks by 10 or 100 without changing the game-play, the sole impact will be that these values will comply with the used arithmetic, and it's not a bad effect.
