Best thing imo -> Licence. If the client violates his rights take legal actions against him. Since Co2 Server Emulators ARE NOT illegal you can take the help of law :)

i just downloaded another client, a random one and tested -> no chat bug.
downloaded another client, patched it up to 43something -> no chatbug
even the alpha client has no chatbug.
