a human as any other species knows fear... this fear might be from a foe, another animal, or something unknown like fire in the ages past... when these fears come, they need something to rely upon so they create these magical lil protectors starting from elemental spirits (ex. a tiger was scared away by fire, must be supernatural causes) all the way to ***/allah (ex. i stopped at red light, 10m ahead of me was an car accident... must be the work of ***...) and when things get bad they need some1 to blame... we humans are a species that are weak by nature...

if some guy wrote a book like the koran or bible in modern day society, he would be checked for mental damage...
