You all think of this too easy. Porting a WHOLE GAME is not an easy task at all. Never mind the copyright stuff but simply updating an 25+ years old software which was not maintained properly to a modern framework and engine is way more work than a small team, can handle.
Porting the maps and mob models into a new engine is the "easy" part. Porting the logic, scripts, software patterns, physics, rendering, GUI etc. on the other hand would basically mean creating a new game, at that point you might as well create a new MMO.
