I see a lot of people assuming problems within the server or the start-up procedures. I am here to set the record straight about the actual physical requirements to run a 'Rappelz Private Server'
Hardware:
Dual-Core or above 2.00GHz and above per core is more than enough
2GB + Ram (This is not required but however is recommended)
1GB HDD space (Recommendation: HDD must be 7200RPM and above)
**Almost all errors related to lag are derived from one of two things:
-Hard Drive (Read/Write) speeds.
--When any action is committed via the server or in-game actions a query to the database (Arcadia, Auth, Telecaster) is issued. The query will need to read or write specific information to the data tables. The slower your harder drive Reads and Writes information the more lag and issues you will experience.
-Network speed.
--When any action is committed via in-game actions the server must communicate a query to the host machine and then to the database machine. The network speed between the 'User' > 'Host' > 'Database' will directly influence 'Load Times' e.g. (Loading into the game, Updating when a 'Quest' is complete, Updating when 'Experience' is gained etc..etc..)
The Hardware aspect of the process (e.g. CPU and RAM) is more negligible than not. While CPU and RAM directly affect the Hosting Machines ability to run the game server program to it's fullest, any computer newer than 2008 should run the server programs very easily.
My Local Computer Specs:
-AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 3.24GHz per core
-4GB DDR2 1066 Ram
-1TB (x2 HDD's) Western Digital Caviar Series (7200RPM)
My Network Specs:
32 MBPS Download // 4 MPBS Upload
The above mentioned configuration can hold upwards of 6 and lower than 10 users concurrently. This is average for the configuration type and specifications.
The network specifications and hard drive read/write speeds influence the ability to run a server more than any other factor. It doesn't matter if you have the newest 6-core processor and 16GB+ of ram, the programs to run the server will not even require 2/6th's of my above mentioned specifications let alone the full amount of resources provided by any computer 2008 and higher.
I hope this has cleared some things up and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
