[ask] pw on dual gpu with sli/xfire

does pw online support dual gpu using sli/xfire, i'm afraid if using 2 gpu like for example geforce gtx 260 sli , it'll only utilize one gpu only.

I'd like to upgrade my old 9800gtx for a single geforce 285 or dual 260 with sli, benchmarks show sli 260 performs better than a single geforce 285 at around the same cost if not slightly higher, but if pw doesn't support sli and then utilize only one 260 then a single geforce 285 is preferable. I never use an sli setup before, so i dunno whether sli is handled by the driver only or need support from the game, else it'll act as single gpu.

if anyone has experience with this or using sli atm, please advise how well sli handles pw multiclients or better go with higher single gpu for this case.

sebelumnya dah pake quadcore buat jalanin 6 client beserta 3rd party software untuk semua client, lancar2 aja cuma cpu resources kepake 70-90% dan kadang nyampe 97-100. Sekarang pake i7 920 jalan 7 client cuma kepake 50-70% aja.

masalahnya trus kalo buat nonton film cuma hitam putih atau nggak keluar gambar sama sekali kecuali bbrp client pw yg udah jalan resolusi nya diturunin, makanya mau upg. gpu nya juga biar jalan res semula dan bisa dipake nonton film juga.

all games can run even if u have dual or triple sli...

The only reason they do dual or triple sli IS to have insanely fps (Frame per second) and high benchmarks.

the advantage of having dual sli allows you to run the games at HIGH Resolution with ALL MAX Settings and still WITH GOOD FPS.

If u only have 1 graphic card and put the game in high resolution with max settings you notice that your FPS will drop. but if u have dual or triple sli gpu u wont see any changes :P... u still have high FPS.

30FPS is playable game its still smooth . but 60FPS is recommend. but with dual or triple sli u have like 200+FPS in perfect world :P.

yea, but the question is does it have to be supported by the game itself to use sli or else it'll only use one gpu from the available sli ? because on some games in video setting there is an option to choose sli mode but in Perfect World Online there isn't any option to use sli, i'm afraid without that sli enabled/supported via the game it will run using single gpu only and wasted for having a sli setup in the system.

the options are either to use sli or one single gpu of higher spec, e.g gtx 260 sli or single gtx 285.

but I have already picked a single gtx 285, skipping sli this time since i'm not sure about the sli support for pwo.

pw doesnt even use 2 cores of a dual core CPU, i heavily doubt itll use SLI

does anyone manage to run pw multiclients for more than 7 clients at once and still having a stable system ? i tried and managed to run highest count at 10 clients at once but then my system will start to lag.

7 clients at once is quite stable though i have to be careful when 4 of them are going to be teleported to west adc for free exp by doing daily crazy stone quest, sometimes it'll lag the system and internet connection might get disconnected, very annoying when this happens coz i have to set up everything all over again.

strange because highest cpu usage is only 64% , still got 370+mb free physical ram, dunno where's the bottleneck or why it behaves like that.

tried already by using 4 separate copies of pw clients on different hdd drive, with each copy running only 2 instances of the client but still have the same problem.

the problem there isn't your computer it is most likel;y you hitting your bandwidth limit on your connection that's my opinion anyway

i don't think internet connection is the problem, i play on a local pw server and it has under 100ms ping reply, worst is still below 300 ms. even with 7 multiclients connected, my du meter shows bandwidth usage still below 5kb/s for both download/upload [oh btw, my isp is 1mbps adsl, well...upto, as the company says...grrr...]

it's like when you use cheatengine to search address and tick [pause the game while scanning] , if the search need a very long time, then internet will get disconnected.

if anyone can run more than 7 clients [10 is preferred], please post.

i used 7 clients at once for hh farming
never had any dcs from tping, or other clientinduced lag, and the connection from europe to msia really sucks. but the game only lagged in adc or from entering other areas, usual gameplay was fluent(i took care of that by lowering the settings, i was running at med-low setting, high texture, 1280x960, with a single 8800 GT and a athlon X2 6000+)average fps in hh 35-45
for dcs on all clients i usually could find a cause, though they happen quite often(i was using sucky 384 kbps adsl still that time). it might be, if youre using any software to conenct to the internet, that it freezes when your cpu is busy, maybe you gotta change system ressouce properties to background programs?

thanks for the info, i guess i have to do a clean install because this old winxp installation has had a hardware change [mobo,proc,ram,gpu], maybe it's messed up a bit while still be able to work.

oh btw what's your os, xp/vista 32 or 64 bit ? just in case you have more ram, you seem to be able to run at higher setting than mine before it goes unstable.

xp32 it still, but running out. i got 4 gb ram(can only use 3). i would change to 64bit, but i got a new system, so ill go for win7.
also, when you use many clients, your pagefile will be used a lot. make sure its on a different physical drive than your game installation.
the number of clients is limited by your cpu and ram mostly, grafics dont matter beside cpu calculation. its the difference whether the active client needs 30% or 50% cpu ... 20% lets you open 2 more clients

something else i noticed: after about 10 hrs of hh, some times 24 or so even, the clients started to get laggy, restart comp, open new clients, and all is lagfree for another 10 hr+

same here, waiting for win7, winvista is too much trouble.

that's exactly what i want to know, it will have lag for after about certain hours like half/one day, and require restart. So it's the same, **** why i even bothered upgrading my gpu for that , if only i asked this earlier lol.

i wouldnt use win7 if my hardware didnt force me to. win xp is just getting too outdated.
