I've read that the main thing you do is translating announcements/news/etc. - How often do you actually need to do that?
I think it'd be senseless to apply if that job would take too much time (I think it's quite hard to guess how much time and effort it requires), since I've got stuff to do in real life as well.

Actually mostly news. You do that as often as you can. It takes exactly all the time you can spare for it. One decent translation takes me at least 30 minutes.

That sounds like a reasonable amount of time. I didn't find any kind of application form, so I'll just ask you once again: Are there any requirements, and what kind of information is needed?
Technically, there are more mistakes in his statement, but let's face it, he'll ignore corrections anyway.

I'd definitely do the job as translator, as long as they're looking for one. I like speaking and writing english, and I have to use it almost daily, so it wouldn't be much of a big deal. Guess I'll think about handing in an application.
