If I had to guess then I would probably guess that "m2bob" was a Metin2 private server. I am sure that there are many reasons private servers close, here is a list of some possible reasons that a private server may close.
1. Declining Player Base - The amount of active players on the private server begins to decline. In response to this, the owner of the private server makes the tough decision to close.
2. Lack of Profitability - There is no money to be made by the owner of the private server and the costs of maintaining the private server are looming over the head of the private server owner. At this point, the private server owner closes the private server after careful consideration.
3. Legal Consequences - The private server owner senses the vultures circling overhead and begins cherishing freedom now more than ever before. The private server owner closes the private server so as not to incur any serious legal consequences.
4. Change of Interests - At one point, the owner of the private server was passionate about the game and really enjoyed playing it. Gradually as time passed the private server owner's interests changed and that passion was not there anymore, the private server closes as a direct result.
5. Technical Problems - The private server seems to be rotting out from the inside, for some reason or another. High latency appears out of nowhere and the private server owner decides to put it out of its misery.
6. Bad Business Negotiations - At one point, all was fine and dandy between the private server owner and any business associates, the fellows that do business with the private server owner. Recently, the private server owner has been faced with failed negotiations and has decided to close the private server.
7. Fierce Competition - The owners of many different private servers have begun to squabble amongst themselves. Each of the private servers is fighting for a larger player base and one private server closes as a result.
8. Dulled Programming Skills - The private server owner used to know the code inside and out, if there was a problem on the private server then it would be fixed within hours. Forgetfulness and lack of practice has caused the computer skills of the private server owner to sharply decline and the private server closes promptly.
9. Temporary Vacation - The private server owner jumped on a plane and decided to take a spur of the moment vacation. To save money, the private server owner closed the private server to save money on either electricity or internet-related costs.
10. Targeted Attack - The private server and by extension the private server owner were the target of an attack. The goal of this attack was to shut the private server down and suffice to say, it was a success.
