I looked into this a few days ago. Although you can make it play the open chest animation, nothing pops out. In fact, nothing happens* after it plays the animation. It's simpler to treat it as a premium chest with clientside decorations.
This is just a case of someone hearing a rumor and over-reacting without getting the facts. It's pretty easy to find out what to modify and as such, should such a flaw really existed, someone would've already released it and ruined it for everyone. Nexon/Devcat did not mess up this event.
*It says "Unable to use Item", but that's a minor detail.

that someone has created a way to preview the ancient chests so they know which ones to use keys on and which to dump. Is this true, and does anyone know who has it?
