Stuff to Edit Linage 2 [ENG]

Part 1

Things you need and where to get them:
First you need UTPT to extract sounds/textures from the utc files found in your systemtextures dir.


Then you need

Then you need l2decrypt (this is important . It is a command line tool that decrypts the lineage 2 text files and without it everything else is useless.

You can also use l2tool if you want to edit the original utx files instead of making new ones. As I do not like this method I won't post links to this tool. If you want to edit te original .utx with it then you should know what your doing already in which case you can find it on your own.

Now the probably overly short reader's digest version of a how to:

Before you start BACK EVERYTHING UP in your entire systexture and system directories. Better yet back up the whole game install dir. Don't say I did not warn you. Also after you make your mod back it up as well because it would suck to have a full check overwrite it.

1. use UTPT to extract textures as dds files with all mip maps. If you can not figure this out look at the UTPT site. If you still can not do it then stop now and beg someone else to make your patch for you.

2. Edit these in photoshop and save using plugin as dxt1 or 3 (usually 1 is fine unless you need transparency). The plugin is pretty straightforward but be aware that you need to keep the same number of mipmaps as original file. Tends to be either 0 or 7. You can do all kinds of spiffy things here like make transparent parts to hide pieces of the model, etc. (clean shaven dwavres anyone?) I am not going into that here though. Experiment on your own. With a backup you cant really mess anythign up here. It is a good idea to keep the same proportions/size for your .dds howeve I believe the engine will stretch to fit so feel free to muck around a bit with making larger textures for more detail or whatever. I have not tried this in l2 yet but every .dds using engine I have ever seen stratches to fit so I can't imagine this one doesn't.

3. In unreal editor in the texture window choose new, the import these files. Preferably with same groupname/texture name as original files. For example the kite shield is groupname: composite_shield texturename: composite_shield_t00_sh. Now save your new utx file. Example mykite.utx. Copy this utx into your systemtextures dir.

4. Use l2decrypt to decypt your text file in your lineage system dir. For kite shield this would be weapongrp.txt. For character/armro stuff it would be the chargrp.txt. L2decrypt is a commandline tool but you can just drag and drop a text file onto it in windows. It will make weapongrp.clean.txt or something similar. BACK UP THE ORIGINAL TEXT FILE!!!! Then use microsoft wordpad to edit the new .txt file. Regular notepad applications wille ither not work or will ruint he file. USE WORDPAD. Search for the reference to your armor, weapon, hair, whatever texture (or sound)... and change it to match your new utx. For exmaple change LineageWeaponsTex.compound_shield.compound_shield_ t00_sh into mykite.compound_shield.compound_shield_t00_sh. ONLY EDIT refences to what you want to change!!!! Then save this file with the name of the original file.

5. Load lineage 2 and test it. If your weapons are all missing or the game crashes or it looks like somsone stole your hair or whatever don't panic. you did something wrong. Restore your backups and try again or give up or whatever it is your the kind of person to do.

conclusion:

It is that simple. ONLY YOU WILL SEE YOUR CHANGES!!!! You can do your perverted nude patches, or change the elf into a schoolgirl with kneehigh socks or just your haircolor. For those of you with alittle more grey matter you can change your footstep sounds, background music, skin the GUI, make a more accurate and useful map (say with boundries that show where recall scrolls take you from given area, monster locations or general level for area, screenshot based map, etc.). Or you can skip all the editing except the text references and still make your elves look like dwarves, bunny rabbits look like dragons, tarbars look like a bow, etc. If your really bored you can even make totally new weapon models/skins to replace the current ones. You would need ot know how to use unreal editor a little better but feasibly it is possible to make bastard swords look like large pink sex toys to go along with your pervy nude patch. I don't expect most people have the motivation or knowhow to do most o that but it is all possible. It is also possible to patch the game to make all this editing go away so don't work TO hard... ncsoft may not like this as much as you do. But then again they seem to allow everything else they claim they don't so who knows. Personally I think it is harmless since it only effects your local client. I editing my final fantasy, daoc, anarchy online, ultima online, star wars galaxies, and other games. The only company that LIKES this was anarchy online's company. However so far nobody else seems to care when you shuffle a sound or texture or make your moogle look like fenrir, or whatever client side edits you make to non code parts of the game. Hopefully NCsoft is not going to be the grump of the bunch.

p.s. do not pm or email me about typos or where to get nude textures, etc. I know it is typo fileld and don't care. ALso there is a thread here on nude patches already. use search. Most of the alread made patches are on foreign sites.

U can probably still do this part even if ur a noob and this is only for nudie patch. and split to two parts again

2.1 there's a file named chargrp.txt
Change that file's contents to
(chargrp.zip)
Besure to make backup copies!!!! (Btw, not sure if this is for korean client or english)
*only removes top clothes and puts them in underwear.

2.2 This one is an installer. Only for Korean client tho.
And it's on attachment. :P (NPatch_Korean_client.zip)
(backup your chargrp.txt unless you don't mind installing everything again)
*i haven't tested this, but got confirmation that it does work.

2.3 l2npatch.zip is another nudie patch just floating around...
