Have you tried chargebacking? If you sent the money as a gift, you cannot get it back.

Exactly as said above, you can take your money back. AFAIK, It's a short process.

Contact your bank, tell them you've been a victim of fraud and they'll cancel the payment or reverse it. Since PayPal doesn't want to loose money they'll get it back from where it was and it'll be back within a week or so.
