Yes, possible. However I think the dev in this case should attempt to figure out why and/or submit it to the various companies for whitelisting.. or at least be honest by it's results on the OP or try to address this in SOME way shape or form.
I'm a network security professional and I spent some time investigating it but was unable to run the app in a standard virtual machine as it detects it and shuts itself down. That "feature" as well is somewhat troubling.. I can think of no good reason why such code would exist to do that in this app. To me this behavior appears to be obfuscation, something a trojan would do.. but I'd like to hear what the dev has to say about it.
It's not really worth a lot of my time to figure this out so I stopped there but I may look further in the future. My advice right now is don't use it as virus/trojans are no joke, the amount of economic/social damage they can cause would surprise a lot of ppl.
