First of all I think it's usefull to introduce myself.
My name is Steven, I'm 16 years old, I have no hobbies at the moment.
I study Latin - Math and I'm from Belgium, however I really like Germany and I just love the language!
After a year of leeching and everything well, I want to start coding and everything myself. I've tried a lil' bit with java stuff(yea, many of you probably think java sucks =P, well, I don't think it sucks, but neither do I think it's good or cool or whatever, since it's all relative)
Enough about myself =P
Here's what I want to be talking about at this topic. I don't know or it's the right section, but I'm sure Mahatma or any other forum mod will put it in the right one if this one is wrong. Since I just started and since I'm trying to learn to work with c/c++, well you all know it's not that easy to start with, if you don't know anything about it. So herefor I'm asking for help. I hope some of you might give me some hints/advice or even offer for helping me during try-outs and etc.(Wich I would really appreciate)
I know that there are probably many mistakes in my english, but hey, that's what school is for right?
I'd rather have everyone to answer at this topic in English since that's the language everybody should be able to understand.(Just like Kyra at her topic )
Thank you all for reading,
I hope that atleast a few of you will volunteer to help me :P
Steven
(I downloaded Code::Blocks just so you know )
(P.S.: Rather no "Read a manual/guide" or whatsoever answer, tried that with Java, and really it's not that useful! Because I'm asking here for help, that's what I would like to receive.)
Welcome to the properly said underground lounge of the Kal scene.
[Please have a seat] ;p
I haven't checked for previous introductions in this section, but it is indeed very nice from you to get a grip of yourself and introduce your stuff to us. ('us' -> Speaking in the name of the community, pweash furgiv me my sin).
Although so far, I might have overseen two or three tiny ones, whatever.
It definitely seems like we do have a few things in common, and I honestly find it entertaining.
However, don't be too self-confident - that would be the end before your beginning.
(I can't say I haven't been affected either, 'tho.)
And since this is a mixed english-german board, happenings couldn't be any more convenient, could they ?
Anyways..
Java you say ?
Hm.. I never really got into it, nor do I know much about it.
But, none can say it's a bad programming language.
Let's say Java is useful when it comes to multi-platform.
As you've probably noticed for yourself, Kal runs "theoretically" only on Windows systems
So having the wide multi-plaform range of Java is kind of useless here.
I won't say you shouldn't learn it, if you want to get a hold on programming, starting with Java, you're free at will.
However, I do believe C/C++ (do you like OOP ?) will come in to be more handy here.
Pascal (Delphi !!) is good as well, different, but a little less garbage-y.
In any case, both will be more powerful than Java, and in some cases, way easier to use.
About a 'how to learn'
I'd suggest you to learn the very basics from tutorials or guidebooks -> structure of the language(s), declarations, common functions, et cetera.
And then, download a source (not too big), have a look at it, and try to edit it, while googling stuff you don't understand.
That's basically how I did. I've tried tuts several times, and always ended up abandoning it at half =p
Now, about your english, I'd say it's rather good.
Can't be any worse than mine =x
Code::Blocks you say ?
Hm, might be all right for basic C/C++, but since nearly everyone here uses Microsoft VisualC++ dependencies, you'd rather prefer having that one to use for yourself.
But this is up to you, once again.
So, so, I suppose this will be it for today.
You'll have me wish you a good luck. (Because you'll most-likely need it. (Few other peepz too, actually. (Everyone ? Oo))) ^___^
In any way, enjoy your stay~!
(Oh and, get sum hubbies !)
(Oh andē, french or dutch side or belgium ?)

Dutch side of Belgium =P,and I'll get some hobbies when I find one I like =S, so far I've been doing Basketball(2 times) - Taekwondo - Youth Movement.
I've tried out Java, because I recently played a few runescape private servers(wich I already got bored of again because it's too easy =P) because there weren't any KalOnline Private Servers wich were attracting. The reason i downloaden Code::Blocks is because I've spoken with Unkn0wN, he told me it's the best program to start with for c/c++ and after a while I should be able to do Visual C++, I can't say I'm looking for doing something with KalOnline, can't say I'm not either... I kinda want to learn about KalOnline and everything with the UCE and all that stuff, how to make a server, but I also want to learn other things about what I could do with coding and such. I do know that it's maybe a lil' bit much I'm dreaming of, but it's something I want to learn and want to do. I've been thinking about this for a long time. That's the reason I asked it at this forum because there are some wonderful coders/gamers are. Some of them are nice, some of them can be a bitch, but we all have our common things too.(For example our desire to code and to play.) I also don't know what OOP is, but I'd love to learn. If you would divide your computer in two halfs: Gaming / Coding-Programming then I would be on the gaming part. I don't know anything about Coding-Programming and that's the main reason that I want to learn about it.
I would like to thank you both for your posts, but guides and tutorials aren't always a great help. At Java I used a few guides. There were mistakes in it, and eventually after trying a bit different things and looking at the pictures I managed to get to what I needed to get. Maybe we could meet at a different platform? Like MSN-Skype-Facebook, through wich we can give out information to eachother. Although I will only give such information about me to the ones who seem trustworthy.(Everybody knows the WWW can be a dangerous place :P) We'll see. Btw I really liked your post and what you did, even though I didn't try it out, it looks wonderful.
I'm off to bed now. (I'm a bit sleepy, nearly fell asleep at school xD)
If anyone replies, I'll try to respond as quickly as I can.
It'll have to wait a little bit longer... Just had a surgery because of a kidney stone... So I guess I'll start having some fun with it after I'm back on track with everything...
Btw guys, I really would like to thank you for all the support and etc.
