Moderator Application [Conquer Online 2]

Hi administration and community,

My name is Spirited. I don't do a great job talking about myself, but I'll try my best. I'm 30 years old, living out of the United States and currently working as a senior software engineer in the game industry with a BS in Computer Science.

My experience

I've been an active developer in Conquer Online for over a decade and thus, would like to apply for the Moderator role in that section. Notably, my involvement in the game industry means I must and will take an unbiased approach to talking about games and encouraging game development in new members. I strongly believe that everyone can learn how to program and have fun making games at all levels. My involvement here will be to encourage development and ethical server operations. I'm not looking to make changes to the section or how it operates.

I was a moderator here before, but stepped down to focus on schooling and then work. Now, I'm at a better company with a better moonlighting policy, so I've been able to work in the community again. I'm currently fixing up our wiki with validation and better navigation, and plan to work on my open source projects in Conquer next. I recently also contributed a new open source launcher using new hooking techniques.

Qualifications

In terms of qualifications, I believe I'd make a good moderator for the following reasons:

• I have industry training in unconscious biases, harassment prevention, and people management.
• I helped develop the section rules for Conquer Online here.
• I was a moderator before leaving to focus on finishing college.
• I was a moderator across several forums of similar content.
• I own and maintain stickied threads throughout the section.
• I own and maintain the development wiki for Conquer Online.
• I own and maintain mirrors for clients and sources.
• I have contributed multiple guides and tutorials to the section.
• I have remained active here for many years now.
• Tutored and lectured in undergraduate courses of Computer Science.

Contingencies & Exceptions

Important to note that if I'm offered a moderator position here, I'll gladly step down from my staff roles on other boards.

I also ask that an exception be made to the permanent infraction on my account from 2016. I understand I'm asking a lot here, but I hope it's all water under the bridge after 6 years. Being re-evaluated on my character and qualifications would be highly appreciated. And please, if you have any concerns: feel free to reach out to me and talk with me. I promise I don't bite.

I've used his sources, threads, and various helpful solution posts many times and would be thrilled to have someone as knowledgeable as Spirited as a moderator for this community. I hope you take into consideration his helpfulness and expertise in the conquer scene when evaluating his application!

One of the nicest people I know from the community and seems to just want to help the conquer community. He seemed interested in some of my work and without question volunteered up a bunch of stuff he had that maybe could help me (it did!).

Genuinely a really nice person with some amazing art work!

He just want to take over the conquer online section so he can protect and his friend servers. He did it before. He want to use the mod tag so the ppl to trust him when he tell them to dont join a server or when he speak bad other servers.
He already have his own site similar to elitepvpers, the same ppl with who he hang around here u will find there also.
As you can easy check here u will see how he talk bad about any other server that is made and also u will notice that he is always sustained by the same 4-5 ppl with who he own 1-2 or more conquer servers. (also the same ppl who want him as mod)

Hey Raz, you're entitled to feel how you wanna feel about me. To address your concerns, none of my epvp friends host servers (and neither do I), and I hold everyone to the same standards equally. I also listed my involvement on other boards in my application as a contingency, so that should be covered. Actually, your server thread is a good example of rule violations I'd help sort through... You don't have a linkback to epvp. A reminder, you should have a linkback that's easy to find on your website, else your thread should technically be deleted (section rules are in my signature). I would work with you on getting that fixed. I also talked to you over Discord about your server and the concerns I had.

You can vote "no", but I hope you talk to Raz. I spoke to him and cleared up a lot of confusion. I reply quickly to threads... but that doesn't mean I started any of the attacks on your server that happened after I commented. I'm just really active here.

Raz did help me understand that my name carries more weight than I realized... so I'll do better about how I comment on server advertisements or just leave it up to the community to comment. Is there anything you'd like to see me improve on? I can't promise I'd be a perfect moderator, but I'll always listen to feedback.

Please report any posts you think violate the rules here. I know you don't do well with criticism, but that's not strictly a rule violation here unless it's flaming. I think a post or two could probably be cleaned up, but it's mostly okay.

I support this wholeheartedly. Regarding the criticism of taking over the servers to "support his friends", let me be perfectly clear, since I got the same criticism - all he did (and I for that matter) was enforce the rules of the board. A lot of cash grab servers do not follow the rules, hence the posts get removed.
