Recently I have been pondering about applying for mod, sure, it's good to have the respect of the forum members, and the status that comes with it, so I'm putting my app up to get my name out there. My reasoning behind this is that I [think] that the SRO section only has one mod from the United States, which can become a problem during times when the other mods aren't on due to the massive difference in time zones. It seems sort of un-balanced and I believe that I can help fill that gap.
Let's start, shall we?
Age: 17
Location: United States (Same as one other moderator in the Silkroad section.)

~Why do you want to be a moderator?
- I came to these forums to seek information on a Silkroad private server, ECSRO, last July. What I found was a lot more, a community that can be helpful, offer great advice, etc., but that a few bad apples would always have to ruin the experience. As a moderator, it would be my job to keep flaming, spamming, useless posts from distracting attention away for why the forums are here, to talk about games and how to enjoy them to the degree you want to. I'd like to be a moderator because I like the [idea of the] responsibility of keeping the forums clean, fun, and above all, helpful.
~What experience do you have with the section you're applying too?
- A lot, actually. All I visit are the Silkroad forums, every single one of them. I've found them a great place to get information regarding certain aspects of Silkroad and I have been visiting those sections since ~May '08 (joined in July, though). I am very experienced in the Silkroad section. I've been playing Silkroad since the 70 cap, and I've seen it evolve from the quaint MMO to the bot-infested corrupt MMO.
~Do you have enough time and effort to dedicate to the job?
- I spend on average 4-6 hours on the board, mind you that's not staring at the forums for 4-6 hours straight (Just looking every now and then to see if there are any threads/posts to report and if there are any interesting new threads that I'd like to read. After all, there aren't going to be 100 new posts every minute, especially so when you consider the time difference where I live!) About effort, I applied to be a guard about a month and a half ago. I take the job seriously as I believe the title of 'guard' is special, even if it doesn't come with fancy privilages. For the time I've spent as guard, I've reported numerous threads and posts that disrupt the functioning of the thread/forums.
~Do you regularly take part in the forums in which you are applying to?
- Yes, all of my posts have been in one of the Silkroad sections. I am very knowledgable about Silkroad and I enjoy sharing it with others. I spend a tad bit more time in the Private Silkroad sections, but my posts are spread evenly throughout all 9 sections the SRO forum has.
~Can you handle numerous types of questions, even if, in your opinion, think they are stupid?
- Yes; though I like to think that there are no stupid questions, sometimes I'll see a question where I second-guess myself, but I won't state that. Instead, I'll help the person by either finding the answer, or linking them to a thread/post where the answer is. Sometimes people don't read/ignore other posts on the same subject, so it can get kind of annoying when you answer the same qustion 15 sperarate times, but I try not letting that kind of stuff bother me.
~Can you act mature around others?
- I try acting mature at all times on the web. I try to express myself in a way that shows a lot of thought and consideration. I think out my answers
and statements thoroughly to avoid any controvery or something to that effect. Something that eximplifies this is my use of grammatically correct
sentences and use of punctuation/spelling. I treat each post like it were important, and meachanics, in my book, are a great way to show maturity. 'Do I want to look like an un-educated child?' 'Or do I want to look professional, like I deserve being a moderator?'
~Have you operated as a moderator before?
- Plenty of times, as a matter of fact. On the eSRO forums (late '08 until March '09), and a few other Silkroad related forums, but nothing on this scale. But being around here for a year+, I've come to realize that I could cope with the amount of posting done here. I always took the job seriously, but still tried to blend in with the normal members, not acting like I was better (or acting elitist) than they were.
Now, a few other concerns.
My thanks count, yes, it's below 100. I've stated (and it's in my signature), that I do not ask for thanks. Sure, if I did a good job or helped, they show that I did, but knowing I did is really what counts. My post count isn't in the quadruple range, or high triple digits, but the quality of my posts is what really matters, well, to me at least. Compare 1,000 spam/off-topic to 330 helpful/constructive posts. Which one got more done? That's what I think about.
Now, I know John stated that Silkroad does not need another moderator, but hear me out on this; I'm putting my app up for consideration, I don't really feel the need to be a mod now, but rather when they need one. Also, as I stated in the beginning, other than really wanting to help out the Silkroad sections, the lack of moderators (with the exception of one) in my time zone at the moment has also led me to making this application.
There are also other factors that [perhaps] make me an appealing candidate, primarily that I can speak perfect English. Now, you might say that even if your English is bad, someone can understand it, that's not really true. I won't go into why that is, other than to say that your, you're, their, there, and they're can really affect a sentence. Now, since English is my primary language, I can make myself clear and get the point across the first time.
Anyways, that's all!
Thanks E*PvP, let's hear what you have to say!
