Server related questions

Trying to setup a somewhat decent Server for myself to have some fun after work, did manage to create one with the v15 files by Cuvvvie but since it has no features it wont be as good.
Did go through the DL sections but i couldnt get those files to work.

What kind of files would be decent ones to run a Sever with, used to like the old GoH server features but those files man.. just couldnt get them to work.
Or if someone wants to help me with a setup of one that would be awesome aswell

Did try to add the common stuff like petfilter and all but couldnt get them to work, some of the "easy" ones went well but at this rate ill be 80 years old before its fully working as those other released files out there..
would love some help

Im not sure what kind of help you want people to offer you.

Honestly, if your work is being stopped by the fact that you're not able to properly copy and paste things from and to the correct sections, you should first of practise that.

Also make sure you add systems one by one, so if something's missing, you get a specific error, and not random **** from somewhere else.

Apart of that tips, you can use files which are reported to work fine, i personally have no examples for you, but i bet there's alot releases.

Well best case would be someone to help me setup one of those Files that are already filled with those things i would add myself.
By reading alot of topics regarding releases and files, i guess that wont happen or rather is difficult.

The current state of my files is - trying to add a petfilter

While compiling i get a error even after adding things to the right places

As i the lack of knowledge that error is just there, even after cheking the areas twice and all. I simply dont know what went wrong or what areas to look for to even start to make sense of that error.

In the long run this will be annoying to deal with for everyone, since i lack the knowledge and time to get really into this in the end.

Maybe someone has useable files that already have those things in them that i could get to run.

You should definetly try begin with smaller things like a Petfilter, even if it sound simple. Maybe something without needing Interfaces or Database entries. As those arent a good beginning point.

Aswell i still advice you to get c++ knownledge before. But i cant hold you I guess.

So, about your error, it tells you that you have a syntax error, i dont know the one exactly but, it tells you basicly that somewhere an '&' is missing before a variable, to make it count as a pointer.

Probably because you used something from another-dated sourcecode, like for example, using a VS 2017 source and adding VS 2003 codes, it can come to conflicts like those, ofc as said i do not know if this was the cause, but it could.

Aswell i dont know alot about the source of your petfilter, only about the source ure using.


Maybe, if you dont manage it alone, atleast try to be as much detailed as possible, not only for others to be able to help you, but also to show that you are rly caring and do not wanna leech, instead wish to actually understand why things go wrong, and how to properly solve.

Thank you for the kind reply, makes sense the way you did put it.
Its just frustrating to spend hours/days to only get error and nothing done..

So far i got those:
Cuvvvie v15 Files
SQL Server 2008 Express
SQL Sever 2008 Management Studio Express
Vs_Enterprise (2017)

Is there any specific Software/Features i should get/ look into?

looking over the error message the call for the packettype is missing the "&" on the DPSrvr.cpp, at least that's what I'm guessing I'm far from a C++ coder myself however I've fully upgraded V15 source code to V19 myself so it is possible for you, don't give up.
Keep in mind I could be totally wrong you said you use Cuvvies source and I recall his reads packets like this

ON_MSG(PACKETTYPE_PETFILTER, &CDPSrvr::OnSetPetfilter );

I hope this was the only issue you face with this system, sometimes small things like this you will need to fix yourself or systems will need to locate defines and some tutorials won't help you or skip this step, read the error carefully and check how the other systems pull code, example other packettypes within the DPSrvr.cpp.

Best piece of advice I could give you is to read the error messages carefully and examine other systems already inside the source you are using,
