Thanks jelio for the great program! It's made my fishing life much better. Here are a few ideas that I think will make the user experience better.
One request I have is for a proper start / stop button for fishing. I know that you have listed the lack of a button as a deliberate feature, but I am finding it difficult to determine when the program has decided that I have "started it" and when I have "interrupted it." Often times I set my fishing hours window and think that I have positioned the avatar and done one cast to start the bot, then put away the rod by selecting quit, only to realize when the programmed time window comes that fishing does not auto-start.
I recall Aquabot, seemed to have a good system with a start/stop button where it would attempt 3 casts, and if all 3 were unsuccessful it would trigger the program to stop. Something similar would be helpful so that I know the process is running and fishing will auto-start, but the program won't spam cast if there isn't anything to cast at.
Also, when the fishing period ends can you have the program select the "quit" button from the hotbar? You probably know this already, but from what I can tell the game gives you a limited amount of time to fish at a certain hole before "the fish sense something is amiss." It seems to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 16 hours - 1 day before you have to refresh the timer by moving to a new hole. Right now, once fishing is up the avatar just stands there with the last catch in hand, running down the fishing timer unless I am paying attention at that moment and click quit (which, again, interrupts the process). It makes the whole fishing trip less efficient and prevents you from "setting and forgetting" the process, so I'm constantly having to time check-ins at start and end times.
Hope that helps! I'm really enjoying the program but do wish that I didn't need to check-in so religiously at start/end times for the fishing windows.
TL;DR Request for a start/stop button to clear up uncertainty about whether the fishing process is running, and for the fishing process to select "quit" when outside of hours defining fishing window.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't fished in a long time so it's appreciated.
I can list it on the status box whether it is primed for fishing or not, sort of like how it does with the retainer. I will also have it check the status of the Cast button to make sure you can actually cast at that location, and make sure it tries to press several times, and beep on failure if enabled.
I can have it quit at the end of weather/time periods as well. But I don't think that helps. I believe the timer starts as soon as you cast at that node.

It's good to know about the timer. The primer will certainly help.
Is there another way of "initiating" the fishing process other than by selecting cast? If there is then I can arrive at the node for a desired window a few hours before it starts in game without having to activate the game's internal fishing timer.

It's hard to know for sure what their timer is, but I believe it's this way. You can cast once and then go do a duty and afk for an hour and try again and it will say amiss, I believe.
You don't need to cast manually when preparing for a fishing window. The auto start logic is very simple. The bot primes itself when you are set to fisher and Time/Weather conditions are invalid. If primed, it will press Cast if the button is lit as soon as Time/Weather conditions become valid. You can test its behavior by fiddling with the conditions on the fly.

Hmmm... in my case the auto start is not kicking in like you describe. My status just remains idle, and I need to cast once manually to start the fishing process. Once I've done that it seems to read the weather/time conditions correctly and continues fishing until the end of the window, unless I interrupt. No idea why it is behaving like this.
I tried opening a fresh program to see if that was the issue just now, but still no auto start even though the weather and time conditions were correct, and cast was available. I'll try to fiddle around with it a bit more to see if there's something that I'm missing.
Edit:I think I figured out the issue I've been having with auto start. It appears that I need to toggle the start hours in one direction (up/later) prior to fishing for the program to recognise them.
Situation 1: If I have opened the program with prior saved hours from the last time I fished (16-24) and did not adjust them, the auto start will not kick in.
Situation 2: If I have opened the program with prior saved hours from the last time I fished (16-24) and did adjust the start time downwards to (12-24), the auto start will not kick in.
Situation 3: If I have opened the program with prior saved hours from the last time I fished (16-24) and adjusted the start time first upwards to (17-24), and then back downwards to (16-24), the auto start will kick in.
It appears to work the same for times that I type in manually:
Situation 4: If I have opened the program at 12PM in game and manually enter a start time (11-24) that is earlier than the in game time, the auto start will not kick in.
Situation 5: If I first manually enter a start time (13-24) by typing a start time that is later than the in-game clock, then change the start time to one that is earlier than the in game clock (12-24), the auto start will kick in.
End time adjustment does not seem to have any effect on auto start, only start time adjustment. For some reason I always need to adjust upwards (later) than the desired start time in first, then back to my actual desired start time. I'm not entirely sure what effect the in-game clock has on this, as I haven't gone through a full 24 hour cycle.
One last detail: Turns out the in game clock is the critical factor. I always have to adjust auto start time to begin later than the in game clock in order for it to kick in.
Situation 6: If I have opened the program at 4PM in game and the saved start time is (18-24), once the in-game clock hits 18hrs auto start will kick in.

It seems all of these are as I describe: if we see an invalid period, prime auto start. If primed, cast upon encountering a valid period.
Auto start is only primed after the program encounters an invalid period. If you boot up into a valid period (I believe in 1 and 2), it will not have been primed and thus not auto start. If you boot up into an invalid period such as in 6, it will prime and start on time.
The reason I suspect it auto starts only after you increase the start time in 1 and 2 is you probably made the period invalid by going beyond the current time, and then returned to a valid period to include the current time.
If you boot up into a valid period and want a start button, I prefer to reuse the start button already built into the game (the cast button).

Now that I understand the conditions for triggering auto start a bit better and how it is tied to the in-game clock for the current day, the start button doesn't seem necessary. The status primer that you suggested would be a great addition though, just to increase transparency about the process. Also the option to quit fishing once the window is closed would be awesome.
Cheers!

That's right, DX9 hasn't been updated in a while due to lack of time and the development of new features. I want to update it again when I can.
Those two skills only fire when at maxed GL and internal release is on, or is 30-45 seconds through its cd in order to synchronize with IR. Do you have IR bound?

I just wanted to say thank you again for the work you put in to maintaining and improving this program. It really does make FFXIV life easier. The combat routines are a great feature. Please can you add one for nin/brd/sam next

Someone else has a problem on one of their Win10 machines but not another. I can't debug Windows 10 specific problems. It might have something to do with User Access Control, or not.

Auto Fishing Bot-frage
07/09/2008 - World of Warcraft - 3 Replies
hello,
