your obviously running vista by the sounds of it well all you have to do if this is correct is go into your install folder, find your auto patch.exe [note unless u have chosen it will not display the .exe] right click it and goto properties now click the compatibility tab and click the box to run compatiblility for windows xp service pack to in the drop menu on the right
now at the bottom check the box next to run as admin no push ok and all that and do all this to the play.exe and also the soul.exe just to be on the safe side
