How to correctly spoof?

Hello, I have been researching spoofing and if you can avoid your main getting banned if you decide to cheat on an alt. From what I have heard many people recommend spoofing your hardware & then proceeding to cheat, so it avoids banning your main hardware. This may sound stupid but if you have logged onto the account you intend to cheat on with your main hardware does BSG save it in some way so they know that your account was created & logged under that specific hardware or if I spoof my hardware and then log onto the account will it set flags off or activate some sorta manual check. Again i'm very new to all of this and would appreciate some feedback even if this sounds stupid please explain to me cause i'm having a hard time understanding.
