[Help]Securing My Server

Hi again idk no one answered me last time a few pages ago so ill give er a go again i had everything up and great had friends conect all was well but then when i followed the Help topics here on how to secure ur server they didnt work idk can someone pls shed some light on this ive tried to use both the topics i searched diabloslayers and the other one but didnt seem to work on this DB ??

Which topics are you referring to that you followed to secure your server?

and i followed both but then when i switch from root test to whatever whatever the npc and account wont restart now i snooped around and noticed that there r 2 users set for this peticular db root-test and just root with no pass the reason i am askin for help is last time i didnt take pecausions they basically forced me to shut down by hackin my db to screw it up eventually i just gave up and now am vry interested in reopening a non-donation free for all server but ^^^^ all that i cant seem to get past and still problems geting the web site up but that i can solve by reasearching more if u can help TYVM i appeciate it alot

Ok this is what I gathered by scanning real fast. All he's talking about is making sure your server doesn't have any usernames opened to the world.

You can accomplish this by Going into your navicat - > Your database -> right click and click manage users.

Once your in there, make sure you have no usernames with the wildcard %

yea did that last time and trust me i was forced to shut down lmao check my last posts in 2007-2008 im almost certain i just dont wanna get attacked again even though i think all the culparates r gone now or it was tq cause they where forcing alot to shut down at that time

even if i did that cant u still access me though log root and pass test i could be wrong since it was a rly rly long time ago and we were still new and upcoming in the pserver world maby im still just scetched out got preety burtal last time around since all the servers r donation driven im woried is understandable i just whant to have a free server where the best is cause they put in the work not cause they r friends with owner or have tons of cash to spend cause i sure dont

As long as you limit the mysql connections by ip address, you shouldn't run into issues unless they gain access to your computer/vps/dedicated server.

In orver three years of programming Eo servers for various people, I have yet to have someone actually manage to gain entry into a database let alone a dedicated machine.

yea it was a visious time u can see in my older posts it happened to alot of people but i think it im just being a chicken funny it was so bad i still remember 3 years later rofl but ahh WTH im gonna get it back up and see what happens worse case im stuck in same boat as now not whanting to play on servers cause they all donation driven

As long as you limit access to certain ip's, you shouldn't run into the issue of someone being able to connect with the default values.
