i need help with my server

if i just extract the server files over and run them everything work fine but i goto change the ip address everthing stops working what am i doing wrong please help me fix this.Is the a better guide that i can read on how to make an online server. Thanks

yes but now it seems like my server only runs for about an hour then stops
