You can also write a batch script to copy your my folder elsewhere or zip/rar it to a specified location. Once it's working to your liking you can use the built-in windows task scheduler to run said batch file every x number of seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/years/decades ect.

If you kill the msg server everyone will be kicked out (and doing it that way might cause database corruption). What he was saying is that since the database is constantly changing it could produce problems in the backup, not catch anything, or perhaps cause server problems if the files are locked because said programs are accessing the same files.

Generally it is best (and probably easiest) to do your backups during server maintenance since you know the files are not being used by anything else. You could also research mysqldump and perhaps that can be run while the server is active.

thats a myth lol

i don't wait for my msg server to close by itself, i end the process in the task manager and i haven't had any corruption yet, done it over 600 times now in the past 2 months

Wait a second, I think that's matrixs' question in the first place.
How to say when the "Server Maintenance" will take place so we can safely backup/dump our DBs.

I have been dumping the DB using Navicats MySQL Dump method(on the fly) and it works very nice.
You can use the batch file method and set the time to start by adding that batch file in the Task Scheduler under System Tools.

Im also using Vista so the darn MSG server just crashes anyways lol

Matrix if you want to force your players to relog once a day in order to prevent botters, I suggest you manually restart by closing it out and letting it do its thing.
Might even try using an auto clicker like AutoIt to do the clicks for you ^^.
I'm not an expert on these server files but I know when TQ does maintenance they give warning u might lose info if u stay logged and then you suddenly d/c as if the MSG server were shut down. Just my two cents.
