If your server(VPS) secured then none could hack your database,
and if client side, it's already been answered, use

ROFL! It took some one 10 minutes to shell my RDC and destroy my whole local network.
Nothing is Unhackable. You just need to look around and take precautions against it.
Enable your firewall, grab a decent AV. Some ip blocking software and make use of the firewall.

rdc is the most common way people will try to access your server ie probably the last means you should use to access it
lol u do got a point though nothing is unhackable .... however your suggestion about a software based firewall etc I cant agree with as nothing software based "inside" windows will protect you against any real threat ....
